Briolette Kah Bic Runga, recording as Bic Runga, is a New Zealand singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist pop artist. Her first three studio albums debuted at number one on the New Zealand Top 40 Album charts. Runga has also found success internationally in Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom with her song "Sway".
The Mutton Birds was a New Zealand rock music group formed in Auckland in 1991 by Ross Burge, David Long and Don McGlashan, with Alan Gregg joining a year later. Four of their albums reached the top 10 on the New Zealand Albums Chart, The Mutton Birds (1992), Salty (1994), Envy of Angels (1996) and Rain, Steam and Speed (1999). They had a number-one hit with "The Heater" (1994), while their other top 10 singles are a cover version, "Nature" (1992), and an original, "Anchor Me" (1994). From 1996 to 2000 the group were based in England, they returned to New Zealand and then disbanded in 2002.
Three Leaning Men were a 1980s band from Palmerston North who released one LP called Fun in the Key of E. The band played many support gigs including their debut supporting Sneaky Feelings at the Massey University Social Hall. Also supported Hunters & Collectors, The Chills and New Order. Formed by Lindsay Gregg (guitar), Rhys Bevan (bass) and Nigel Corbett (drums) and joined by second guitarist Greg Malcolm. Rhys Bevan was replaced by Alan Gregg during the recording of the album Fun in the Key of E. Alan Gregg has gone on to feature in a number of other New Zealand bands including The Dribbling Darts of Love, The Mutton Birds and Marshmallow. Rhys Bevan moved to the South Island of New Zealand to continue his career as a baker. Guitarist Lindsay Gregg died in 2011.
Ross Elliott Burge is a New Zealand musician, who started playing drums with the Nelson College rock band Mandias in 1973. He decided that this was to be the life for him, and called the NZPO to ensure back-up. A band formed by Alan Gregg after leaving The Mutton Birds which is based in London, England. Members: Alan Gregg, Bert Thomas, Richard Turner and Cy Winstanley. David Long, Bic Runga and Ron Sexsmith contributed to the album Marshmallow.
Stellar is a New Zealand pop/rock band led by vocalist Boh Runga, sister of acclaimed recording artist Bic Runga. They have had four RIANZ top 10 singles and two No. 1 albums. The band's signature song is "Violent", which at the 2000 New Zealand Music Awards won the Single of the Year award, as well as winning Runga an award for best Songwriter. The band won seven awards, among them the Best Album award for their debut, Mix. This was followed up by 2001's Magic Line and 2006's Something Like Strangers. The band officially disbanded in 2010 after releasing their greatest hits compilation, and reformed in 2017.
