Alan Johnson (born October 3, 1957) is an American Dirt Modified racing driver who has earned over 560 feature event at 39 tracks in seven states and two Canadian provinces. [2] [3]

Racing career

Alan Johnson began his racing career in 1975 with a win at the Canandaigua Speedway NY, and claimed at least one feature event victory annually over the next 48 years. [2] He has competed and been victorious at the east coast race tracks from Florida to Canada, including Black Rock Speedway NY, Fulton Speedway NY, Orange County Fair Speedway NY, Ransomville Speedway NY, and Weedsport Speedway NY. Johnson captured the 1983, 1989, and 2003 Super Dirt Week 300 on the Syracuse Mile and was crowned the overall Mr. DIRT champion five times. [7] He was honored by the Eastern Motorsport Press Association as driver of the year in 2004 and again in 2007, and was inducted into the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame in 2017. [3] [8] [9] Johnson was inducted into the Eastern Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame in 2025. [10]

Personal life

Johnson comes from a racing family. As he was growing up, his father, Milt, was racing at Central New York tracks and building race engines. Eventually his younger brother Danny got into the driver's seat, and in 2018, Daniel Johnson, Danny's son, began the third generation in racing. [11] [12]

Emil Lloyd "Buzzie" Reutimann is a former NASCAR driver from Zephyrhills, Florida. He is the father of former driver David Reutimann. Reutimann was inducted into the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Eastern Motorsport Press Association Hall of Fame in 2006.

Kenny Brightbill, nicknamed the "Shillington Slingshot" and "Mr. Excitement" is a former NASCAR and professional dirt modified driver from Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania. He has won 441 career professional races and is also the all time wins leader of Reading Fairground Speedway with 135 career wins. Brightbill has won many of the most noted races for dirt track modifieds in the Northeastern United States, most notably 1988 Syracuse Miller High Life 300.

Robert David "Barefoot Bob" McCreadie was an American Dirt Modified racing driver. He is an inductee to the Lowe's Motor Speedway Walk of Fame, the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame, and the Eastern Motorsport Press Association Hall of Fame.

William (Bill) Wimble was an American stock car racing driver and two time champion of the NASCAR Sportsman Division.

Gerald Chamberlain is a retired American stock car racing driver from Everett, Pennsylvania. Chamberlain won 22 feature events at the Reading (PA) Speedway in 1971. He broke the track record the next year with 31 victories in one year.

W. Alan "Rags" Carter was an American stock car racing driver from Miami Springs, Florida. He won the 1965, 1966 and 1969 championships at the Nazareth Speedway in Pennsylvania.

Kenneth "Kenny" Tremont Jr. is an American dirt modified racing driver. He has captured 41 track titles at seven different tracks, and notched wins at 20 different tracks.

Alfred A. "Freddy" Adam was an American stock car racing driver. Adam centered his racing career on the Mid-Atlantic states, and won three track championships at Hatfield Speedway PA, as well as the final Modified title at the Dorney Park Speedway in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Jack Johnson was an American dirt modified racing driver. A six-time Mr. Dirt Champion and four-time Super DIRT Series Champion, Johnson won 428 Modified feature races at 35 tracks in 10 states and two Canadian provinces.

Raymond "Ray" Brown was a pioneering driver of Dirt Modified stock cars and later a standout open-cockpit Midget racer. From 1951 to 1959 Brown recorded 43 victories at the Orange County Fair Speedway and claimed three track championships.

Bob Rossell is a pioneering driver of modified stock cars. Before his retirement, he was also a much sought-after car builder and fabricator, with many top drivers finding success in Rossell racers, with its signature square tubing.

Mervyn "Merv" Treichler is a retired American stock car racing driver who competed on both asphalt and dirt surfaces. In 1970 he won the Race of Champions, the premier asphalt race for modifieds. He also claimed the marquee events for dirt modifieds at Super Dirt Week in 1981 and 1982.

D. James "Jim" Shampine was one of the most successful drivers in Supermodified competition and an equally skilled racer in asphalt and dirt-track Modified stock cars. He won 92 feature races at Oswego Speedway NY, and with his innovative car designs captured 38% of the Supermodified events held from 1970 to 1979.

Louis "Lou" Lazzaro was an American Modified racing driver. Equally adept on both dirt and asphalt surfaces, he raced from Daytona to Canada, and is credited with over 250 feature wins in a career that spanned six decades.

Sammy Beavers is a retired American Dirt Modified racing driver. Beavers is known for his philanthropic work and annual holiday party for the children at the Matheny School in Peapack, New Jersey.
