Alem Ber (also known as Amed Ber) is a town located in the northern part of the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. It is one of the two major cities in Fogera woreda.
The population of Alem Ber and its surrounding mostly depends on trade and agriculture. The place also serves as source of butter, pepper and cereals which are traded to Debre Tabor and Worota. In addition, some part of the population depends on traditional industries. For example, Muslim population largely depends on cottage industries by producing traditional clothes known as shemma. Others produce beverage in traditional ways like tella and areki which constitutes much of the local alcohol consumption.
On the other hand, the culture is like most north part of Ethiopia. In addition, this place is known with its nickname: Amora Gedel, where the Italians heading through Debre Tabour were defeated, which was actually the original name of the place. The place has been known for its patriots, beloved people, and the long-standing school where many scholars started their schooling since 1972. Schools like Alem Ber Elementary School and Alem Ber High School give opportunities to students in Alem Ber and its surroundings.
Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, Alem Ber has an estimated total population of 5,517 of whom 2,623 are men and 2,894 are women. [1] The 1994 census reported this town had a total population of 3,194 of whom 1,380 were men and 1,814 were women. In 2013, the population grew to 13,201.

Debre Birhan is a city in central Ethiopia. Located in the Semien Shewa Zone of Amhara Region, about 120 kilometers north east of Addis Ababa on Ethiopian highway 2, the town has an elevation of 2,840 meters, which makes it the highest town of this size in Africa. Located in the northwest corner of the Semien Wollo Zone, Bugna is bordered on the south by Meket, on the west by the Debub Gondar Zone, on the north by the Wag Hemra Zone, and on the east by the Lasta woreda. The main town is Ayne. The Lasta woreda, where Lalibela is, was split off from Bugna.
Gidan is a woreda in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Semien Wollo Zone, Gidan is bordered on the south by Guba Lafto, on the southwest by Meket, on the west by Lasta, on the north by the Tigray Region, and on the east by Kobo. The administrative center of the woreda is Muja town, another small towns in Gidan include Debre Tsehay, Densa, Bekilo Mneqia, Iyella, Dildiy, Asikit, and Wonday.
Meket is a woreda in Amhara Region, Ethiopia. It is named after a former district located approximately in this area. Located on the western side of the Semien Wollo Zone, Meket is bordered on the south by Wadla and Dawunt, on the west by the Debub Gondar Zone, on the northwest by Bugna, on the north by Lasta, on the northeast by Gidan, and on the east by Guba Lafto. The administrative center of Meket is Filakit Gereger; other settlements include Debre Zebit and Weketa.
Fogera is a woreda in Amhara Region, Ethiopia. Fogera is part of the Debub Gondar Zone. The district is bordered on the south by Dera, on the west by Lake Tana on the north by the Reb which separates it from Kemekem, on the northeast by Ebenat, and on the east by Farta.
Machakel is a woreda in Amhara Region, Ethiopia. Part of the Misraq Gojjam Zone, Machakel is bordered on the south by Debre Elias, on the northwest by the Mirab Gojjam Zone, on the east by Sinan, and on the southeast by Guzamn. Towns in Machakel include Amanuel. Woreda of Debre Elias was separated from Machakel.
Gozamn is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the East Gojjam Zone, Guzamn is bordered on the southeast by Baso Liben, on the south by the Abay River which separates it from the Oromia Region, on the west by Debre Elias, on the northwest by Machakel, on the north by Sinan, and on the east by Aneded; the Chamwaga River defines part of the border between the Guzamn and Baso Liben woredas. The town and woreda of Debre Marqos is an enclave inside Guzamn. Towns in Guzamn include Chemoga and Yebokile. Sinan woreda was separate from Guzamn.
Baso Liben is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. A triangular-shaped district at the southernmost point of the Misraq Gojjam Zone, Baso Liben is bordered on the south by a bend of the Blue Nile river which separates it from the Oromia Region, on the northwest by the Chamwaga river which separates it from Gozamn, and on the northeast by Aneded. The major town in Baso Liben is Yejube. there are two other small towns; Kork and Yelamgeji with significant trading activity
Dembecha Zuria is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Mirab Gojjam Zone, Dembecha is bordered on the west by Bure, on the northwest by Jabi Tehnan, on the north by Dega Damot, and on the east and south by the Misraq Gojjam Zone. Towns in Dembecha include Addis Alem, Dembecha and Yechereka.
Elu is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Southwest Shewa Zone, Elu is bordered on the south by Becho, on the west by Dawo, on the north by West Shewa Zone, and on the east by the Awash which separates it from Alem Gena. Towns in Elu include Debre Genet and Tagi.
Finote Selam is a town and separate woreda in western Ethiopia. Located in the Mirab Gojjam Zone of the Amhara Region, by road 387 km from Addis Ababa and 176 km from Bahir Dar. By air, the distance from Addis Ababa is 246 km. Finote Selam, the "Pacific Road", is the name given by Emperor Haile Silassie during the Italian invasion on Ethiopia. Formerly its name was Wojet. Now Finote Selam is the capital city of West Gojjam Zone. This town has a longitude and latitude of 10°42′N37°16′E with an elevation of 1917 meters above sea level.
Merawi is a city administration located 30 kilometers south of Bahir Dar, Amhara Region's capital in north-western Ethiopia, in what was previously Bahir Dar Awraja of Gojjam province. The town also hosts the seat of Mecha Woreda administration.
