Alexandra Stamatopoulou (born 7 September 1986) is a Greek Paralympic swimmer. She represented Greece at the Paralympic Games. [2]
Stamatopoulou was born in Romania, in a very poor family, who had to send her to an institution. She lived there until she became five years old, when she was adopted and relocated to Greece. Her childhood idol was Nadia Comăneci. She has been diagnosed with the stiff-person syndrome. [1]
Stamatopoulou represented Greece at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. In Tokyo she won the bronze medal in the 50 metre backstroke S4 event. [3] At the 2024 Summer Paralympics, in Paris, France, Stamatopoulou won the gold medal in the women’s 50m backstroke S4 category. [4]
She was awarded as the Best Greek female athlete with a disability for 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022. [5] [6] [7]
The Greek football PSAP awards are a number of awards given annually by the Greek Union of Professional Football Players (PSAP) (Greek: Πανελλήνιος Σύνδεσμος Αμειβομένων Ποδοσφαιριστών). Spyridon "Spyros" Gianniotis is a Greek competitive swimmer who specialises in long-distance and open-water freestyle events. He is an Olympic silver medalist, two-time World Champion, World Cup gold medalist, and two-time European Champion. A five-time Olympian, Gianniotis has won a total of 15 medals in major international long-course competition, totalling 5 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze spanning the Olympics, the World Championships, the World Cup and the European Championships. In 2011 he won the World Open Water Swimmer of the Year award, becoming the first and only Greek swimmer to earn that distinction.
Nikoleta 'Nikol' Kyriakopoulou is a Greek retired pole vaulter. Nikoleta was 8th at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021. She also won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Beijing in 2015 jumping 4.80m. During the 2015 season, she set five Greek records raising the bar to 4,83 meters. The same year, she became the first Greek athlete to win the IAAF Diamond League.
Vassiliki Vougiouka, often known as Vaso Vougiouka, is a Greek female sabre fencer, silver medallist in the 2012 and 2013 European Championships.
Mygdonia Badminton Athletic Club is a badminton club based in Drymos, Oraiokastro, Thessaloniki, Greece. It was started in February 2000 and officially founded on March 22, 2002. Its emblem is an olive wreath, and its colors are orange and black. Mygdonia A.C. has achieved success at both the national and international levels. Nikolaos Pananos, born on 29 March 1968 in Athens, is a Greek boccia player with a Paralympic boccia classification of BC3. His specific disability is cerebral palsy. He won the gold medal during the 2012 Summer Paralympics in BC3 mixed pairs along with Maria-Eleni Kordali and Grigorios Polychronidis. In the 2016 Summer Paralympics he won the bronze medal at the same event.
