The EuroLeague, known as the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague for sponsorship reasons, is a European men's professional basketball club competition. The league is widely recognised as the top-tier men's league in Europe. The league consists of 18 teams, of which 16 are given long-term licences and wild cards, making the league a semi-closed league. The league was first organized by FIBA in 1958, subsequently by ULEB in 2000 and then solely the Euroleague Basketball.

3x3 basketball is a variation of basketball played three-a-side, with one backboard and in a half-court setup. According to an ESSEC Business School study commissioned by the International Olympic Committee, 3x3 is the largest urban team sport in the world. This basketball game format is currently being promoted and structured by FIBA, the sport's governing body. Its primary competition is an annual FIBA 3X3 World Tour, comprising a series of Masters and one Final tournament, and awarding six-figure prize money in US dollars. The FIBA 3x3 World Cups for men and women are the highest tournaments for national 3x3 teams. The 3x3 format has been adopted for both the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Aleksandr Pavlovich Petrov was one of the first tall centers in Soviet basketball. Playing for the senior men's Soviet Union national basketball team, he won silver medals at the 1960 Summer Olympics and 1964 Summer Olympics, a bronze medal at the 1963 FIBA World Championship, as well as four EuroBasket titles, at EuroBasket 1959, EuroBasket 1961, EuroBasket 1963, and EuroBasket 1965. He was named the best center at the 1963 FIBA World Championship. After he retired from playing, he coached basketball teams in Moscow, and later in Madagascar. For his achievements, he was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honour.
The Clube Desportivo O Maculusso, formerly Club Desportivo Têxtil de Luanda, is an Angolan multisports club based in Luanda. Desportivo do Maculusso was named after its major sponsor, a textile factory in Luanda called Macambira. As the textile factory went out of business in 1999, the club was renamed after the neighborhood in which it was located, the neighborhood of Maculusso in Luanda. The club's women's basketball team competes at the local level, at the Luanda Provincial Basketball Championship and at the Angola Women's Basketball League.
The Angola women's national basketball team Under-20 represented Angola in international basketball competitions and is controlled by the Federação Angolana de Basquetebol. At continental level, it competed at the FIBA Africa Under-20 Championship for Women which was eligible for the FIBA Under-21 World Championship for Women. The 2007 edition of the men's basketball tournament of the African Games was the 9th, organized by FIBA Africa and played under the auspices of FIBA, the basketball sport governing body. The tournament was held from 12 to 22 July 2007 in Algiers, Algeria, contested by 11 national teams and won by Angola, who defeated Egypt 56–50 in the final to win their third title.
The Basketball Champions League (BCL), also commonly known as the FIBA Basketball Champions League, is an annual professional basketball competition for European clubs, organised by FIBA. It is the top-level competition organised by FIBA Europe, therefore the champion participates in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup.
The EuroBasket 2022 was the 41st edition of the EuroBasket championship organized by FIBA Europe. It was the first since it was agreed it would take place every four years, with a similar system of qualification as for the FIBA Basketball World Cup. It was originally scheduled to take place between 2 and 19 September 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent postponement of the 2020 Summer Olympics to 2021, it was postponed to September 2022.
