Alexis Peterman is a British actress from Birmingham, England, known for her role as receptionist Lauren Porter in the BBC soap opera Doctors .
Peterman was born and raised in Birmingham. From years two to 18, she attended Edgbaston High School for Girls. At 14, Peterman was scouted by London's Models 1 modeling agency, working with them until matriculating to drama school. Peterman is of Welsh and Polish Ashkenazi Jewish descent.
Peterman's maternal great-grandmother was the Yiddish theatre actress, Becky Goldstein. "Born in Mlava, Poland, moved to England at the age of 12. She became an actress at the Pavilion later transferring to the Grand Palais. A specialist in archetypal 'Yiddishe mama' roles, she left the stage owing to ill health." Goldstein was married to the actor and playwright, Joseph Markovitch, who "joined the Pavilion Theatre as an actor and playwright. A prolific dramatist and lyricist, he wrote such plays as The Revolutionary, Mendel Beilis, The Gambler, The Two Chaverim, and The Desert. In later years, until his retirement in 1960, he belonged to the Grand Palais company." [1]
After a three-year degree course at Arts Educational Schools, London, Peterman starred in various stage roles. [2] She then undertook a series of supporting roles in various television productions, including: Footballers Wives, Dream Team , Hotel Babylon and Lip Service .
Peterman first appeared in the BBC medical soap opera Doctors as Phoebe Billington in a single episode in 2006, before appearing again in 2010, but as Carrie Whitworth. [3] She returned to the soap in 2011 to play receptionist Lauren Porter on a recurring basis. A storyline that saw Lauren murdered garnered a Best Storyline and Best Episode nomination at the 2012 British Soap Awards. [4]
In 2013, Peterman played the role of Natalie Fisher in the HBO/Sky1 British action and military television series, Strike Back. She then appeared in Survivor , the 2015 British-American spy thriller film starring Pierce Brosnan, Milla Jovovich, and Dylan McDermott, and directed by James McTeigue. Peterman starred as the lead in the Syfy channel made-for-television movie, Roboshark , which kicked off Sharknado week 2015.[ citation needed ]
In 2012, Peterman - alongside her partner, actor, Dar Dash - conceived Drink Me Eat Me, [5] a “treat boutique” and event space, to serve the local community tasty treats, sell locally produced handmade treasures, and host parties, events, classes, pop-up shops and dinners. Drink Me Eat quickly became a bustling hub of West London. To concentrate on their careers, Peterman and Dash sold the company in August 2015.[ citation needed ]
In 2022, Peterman guest starred in an episode of the BBC drama series Call The Midwife . The episode focuses on a Jewish couple suffering the effects of post traumatic stress after surviving the holocaust. [6]

Doctors is a British medical soap opera, first broadcast on BBC One on 26 March 2000, and concluded on 14 November 2024. Filmed in Birmingham and set in the fictional West Midlands town of Letherbridge, the soap follows the lives of the staff of both an NHS doctor's surgery and a university campus surgery, as well as the lives of their families and friends. Initially, only 41 episodes of the programme were ordered, but due to the positive reception, the BBC ordered it as a continuing soap opera. Doctors was filmed at the Pebble Mill Studios until 2004; production then relocated to the BBC Drama Village, where it filmed until 2024. Episodes are filmed three months prior to transmission. The soap is typically broadcast on weekdays at 1:45 pm on BBC One, as well as having classic episodes broadcast on Drama. It takes three annual transmission breaks across the year: at Easter, during the summer and at Christmas.
Nichola Petra "Niky" Wardley is an English stage and screen actress. Her most notable role is schoolgirl Lauren Cooper's sidekick in the BBC's Emmy and BAFTA-nominated sketch series The Catherine Tate Show (2004–2007). Tanya Cross is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, played by Jo Joyner. She made her first appearance on 27 June 2006. Joyner left the show temporarily on 25 December 2009 for maternity leave. After a guest appearance, Tanya eventually returned on 27 September 2010. Karen Hollins is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera Doctors, portrayed by Jan Pearson. Introduced as a receptionist at the fictional Mill Health Centre, Karen was created by series producer Peter Eryl Lloyd as a replacement for former receptionist Vivien March. She first appeared during the episode broadcast on 23 February 2009. Writers eventually introduced a family for Karen; husband and police sergeant Rob, and their children, Imogen and Jack. Karen is depicted as a hardworking person who cares about her job and the patients at the surgery, but someone who prioritises her family above her work responsibilities.
Imogen Hollins is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera Doctors, portrayed by Charlie Clemmow. Before her first appearance, Imogen is mentioned by her on-screen mother Karen ; Clemmow watched the episode and wrote a letter to the BBC asking if they would be casting actresses for the role of Imogen. She made continued contact with the BBC and was eventually invited to audition for Imogen, and despite having no agent, she was cast in the role and made her first appearance on 4 August 2009. Winifred Tembe is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera Doctors, portrayed by Lorna Laidlaw. She is introduced on 5 January 2011 as a new receptionist at the fictional Mill Health Centre as a replacement for Ruth Pearce. Despite initially being introduced as Mrs Tembe, she later reveals her forename to be Winifred. In April 2016, Mrs Tembe's role within Doctors changed as she becomes the practice manager. On 8 January 2019, it was announced that Laidlaw was to leave Doctors after 8 years. Mrs Tembe's exit storyline saw her move away with Gordon Clement to Newcastle after accepting a new job working as a manager for a children's charity. Laidlaw's final scenes aired on 13 February 2019.
Danielle Amy Harold is an English actress and producer. She rose to prominence playing Lola Pearce in the BBC soap opera EastEnders. Her portrayal of Lola's glioblastoma brain tumour storyline, that ultimately resulted in the character's death, earned her a win at the National Television Awards for Serial Drama Performance and three nominations at the British Soap Awards, of which she won Best Leading Performer, as well as a TRIC award for Soap Actor and the Inside Soap award for Best Actress.
