Somalia,officially the Federal Republic of Somalia,is a country in the Horn of Africa. The country is bordered by Ethiopia to the west,Djibouti to the northwest,the Gulf of Aden to the north,the Indian Ocean to the east,and Kenya to the southwest. Somalia has the longest coastline on Africa's mainland. Its terrain consists mainly of plateaus,plains,and highlands. Hot conditions prevail year-round,with periodic monsoon winds and irregular rainfall. Somalia has an estimated population of around 17.1 million,of which over 2 million live in the capital and largest city Mogadishu,and has been described as Africa's most culturally homogeneous country. Around 85% of its residents are ethnic Somalis,who have historically inhabited the country's north. Ethnic minorities are largely concentrated in the south. The official languages of Somalia are Somali and Arabic. Most people in the country are Muslims,the majority of them Sunni.
Foreign relations of Somalia are handled primarily by the President as the head of state,the Prime Minister as the head of government,and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Government.
Puntland,officially the Puntland State of Somalia,is a Federal Member State in northeastern Somalia. The capital city is the city of Garoowe in the Nugal region,and its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Geographically to the west,Puntland lays claim to the intra-46th meridian territories that were outside European colonial rule during parts of the Scramble for Africa period.

He previously served as the 8th president of Somalia from 2012 to 2017. A civil and political rights activist,Hassan was previously a university professor and dean at SIMAD University,which he co-founded.

Raqiya Haji Dualeh Abdalla is a Somali sociologist and politician. She has held a number of senior policy-making posts in governmental,non-governmental and international institutions,including as Vice Minister of Health of Somalia. She was also a founding member of the Somali Women's Democratic Organization (SWDO),serving as the group's Acting Chairperson and Vice President. Additionally,Raqiya is the founder and President of the Somali Family Care Network.
Uzoma Asagwara is a Canadian politician who has served as the Deputy Premier and Minister of Health,Seniors and Long-term Care of Manitoba since October 3rd 2023. Prior to politics they were a nurse and basketball player. Since 2019,they have represented the Union Station electoral district in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. Asagwara is a member of the Manitoba New Democratic Party.
The COVID-19 pandemic was confirmed to have reached Somalia on 16 March 2020 when the first case was confirmed in Mogadishu. The Somali Prime Minister,Hassan Ali Khaire announced that the government has set aside five million dollars to deal with the disease. The Somali Medical Association is concerned that the death toll in the country will be huge and that Somalia will not be able to recover from the economic effects due to poor working relations between central government and federal states which leads to lack of control by central government,as well and the lack of healthcare infrastructure. It has also been speculated that President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed may use the pandemic as an excuse to postpone elections. There have also been concerns over freedom of the press following arrests and intimidation of journalists who have been covering the pandemic in Somalia.
Khalif Mumin Tohow was a Somali politician. Tohow served as the state Justice Minister for Hirshabelle State,an autonomous region within Somalia,until his death in April 2020. He was also a member of the Legislative Assembly of Hirshabelle State.
Fawziya Abikar Nur is the Somalian Federal Minister for Health and Social Care since March 2017. She is trained in law and public health and previously worked for the World Health Organization. She was in the post during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Somalia and the arrival of the first vaccines.
