Ali Hussein (born 1 January 1950) is a former Iraqi football Defender who played for Iraq in the 1976 AFC Asian Cup.

Ali played for the national team between 1973 and 1976. [1]

The 1976–77 Iraqi National Clubs League was the 3rd season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Due to scheduling difficulties, the season had to be cut short during the second half of the season. The Iraq Football Association decided to annul the results from the second half of the season, using the league table at the halfway stage of the campaign as the final standings, and crowned Al-Zawraa as the champions for their second consecutive league title.

He held Iraq's goal record with 35 goals in his time, until Hussein Saeed broke it in 1982. He's the uncle of Iraqi international footballer Ali Adnan Kadhim.

In August 2, 1990, the rivalry between the two switched from the football field to the battlefield, during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Because of the Gulf War, Iraq and Kuwait were in complete avoidance and never met for more than a decade. Iraq and Kuwait have played 37 matches against each other with 17 victories for Iraq, 10 draws, and 10 victories for Kuwait.
