Aliakbar Gharibshahi is an Iranian paralympic powerlifter. He won the gold medal in the men's 107 kg event at the 2024 Summer Paralympics. [1] [2] [3]
Powerlifting at the 2008 Summer Paralympics was held in the Beihang University Gymnasium from September 9 to September 16. Any athlete who met a minimum level of disability could take part in these events.
Azerbaijan competed at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia having won one silver medal. Powerlifter Gunduz Ismayilov who initially had won a gold medal in Men's -90kg competition lifting 240 kg to set a world record was stripped of it with his record nullified after testing positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone. Ismayilov subsequently was banned from the Paralympics for life in 2004 after testing positive for stanazolol in the 2004 Summer Paralympics.
The Philippines made its Paralympic Games debut at the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Seoul and has been fielding athletes up to the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo. Its athletes has won two bronze medals; Adeline Dumapong in powerlifting (2000), and Josephine Medina in table tennis (2016). The country has never won a Paralympic gold medal.
Egypt competed at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, United States. They sent 31 athletes, who won 30 total medals, 8 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze. They participated in several sports including powerlifting. The team included powerlifters Ahmed Gomaa Mohamed Ahmed and Metwalli Mathana.
Farman Basha is an Indian powerlifter. Basha represented India at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, United Kingdom. He won a bronze medal at the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, China. However, this was later upgraded to a silver medal after Iranian Mustafa Radhi was disqualified due to doping.
Siamand Rahman was an Iranian Paralympic powerlifter. He won gold medals at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, and the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou. He is the current IPC Powerlifting World Record holder in the +107 kg category with a 310.0 kilograms (683.4 lb) bench press and also holds the junior world record with 290.0 kilograms (639.3 lb) and the Paralympic Championship Record with 310.0 kilograms (683.4 lb). Siamand died on 1, March 2020 due to cardiac arrest.
Adeline Dumapong-Ancheta is a Filipina retired Paralympic powerlifter. She became the first Filipina to win a Paralympic medal ever when she won bronze at the 2000 Summer Paralympics.
Rouhollah Rostami is an Iranian powerlifter. He won gold at the Summer Paralympics in 2021 and 2024. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics, he won silver medal in the 67.5 kg (149 lb) category, with 208 kg (459 lb).
Samam Razi is an Iranian powerlifter.
Bahman Golbarnezhad was an Iranian Paralympic racing cyclist competing in C4 classification events and an earlier powerlifter. During his powerlifting career, he won twelve gold medals and one silver medal in international competitions. Golbarnezhad had represented Iran in two Summer Paralympic Games, first in 2012 in London and later in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. He was the only Iranian cyclist at the 2016 Paralympics. He was a veteran of the Iran–Iraq war.
Ruel Ishaku is a Nigerian Paralympic gold medal-winning powerlifter. He was elected President of the Nigeria Para-Powerlifting Federation from 2020 till 2022 replacing the past leader Uboh Idris. Ishaku was first elected as the representative of the board of the Paralympic association after defeating Tajudeen Agunbiade, a table tennis player by 27 votes. He was later appointed the Technical Director after his rule as president in 2022.
India competed in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, from 24 August to 5 September 2021. India made its official debut at the 1968 Summer Paralympics and has appeared in every edition of the Summer Paralympics since 1984.
Hamzeh Mohammadi is an Iranian Paralympic powerlifter. He represented Iran at the 2004 Summer Paralympics, at the 2008 Summer Paralympics and at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and he won two medals: the bronze medal in the men's 67.5 kg event in 2004 and the gold medal in the men's 60 kg event in 2008.
Nader Moradi is an Iranian Paralympic powerlifter. He represented Iran at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and he won the gold medal in the men's 60 kg event.
Enkhbayaryn Sodnompiljee is a Mongolian powerlifter. He is a three-time medalist, including gold, at the Paralympic Games.
Bonnie Bunyau anak Gustin is a Malaysian powerlifter. He won Malaysia's first ever gold medal in the sport in the men's 72 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo and again at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris whilst breaking his own world record for men's 72 kg.
