Allan Stuart Chase (born 1956 in Phoenix, Arizona) is an American jazz saxophonist.
Chase studied at Berklee College of Music with Jaki Byard, at the Creative Music Studio with Anthony Braxton, Roscoe Mitchell, Karl Berger and George Lewis at Arizona State University, and at Tufts University. He wrote his master thesis on the music of Sun Ra.
From 1981 to 1995, Chase was a member of the Your Neighborhood Saxophone Quartet, with whom he recorded six albums and completed ten European tours. Since 1992 he has also been a member of Rashied Ali's quintet, Prima Materia, and has contributed to four of the group's albums. He also recorded with Gunther Schuller, John Zorn, Dominique Eade, Joe Morris and Stanley Cowell. As a sideman, he worked with Alan Dawson, Teddy Kotick, Mick Goodrick, Lewis Nash, Fred Hersch and Andrew Cyrille. He was on the faculty at Berklee College from 1981 to 1990.
In 1995, he founded his own quartet (with Ron Horton, Tony Scherr and Matt Wilson) and released his debut album Dark Clouds with Silver Linings, which was included in the top ten list of the jazz albums of the Boston Globe, Jazziz and Boston Phoenix magazines. He became the chair of the New England Conservatory's jazz studies department in 1996.

Milton "Bags" Jackson was an American jazz vibraphonist, usually thought of as a bebop player, although he performed in several jazz idioms. He is especially remembered for his cool swinging solos as a member of the Modern Jazz Quartet and his penchant for collaborating with hard bop and post-bop players.
The Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ) was a jazz combo established in 1952 that played music influenced by classical, cool jazz, blues and bebop. For most of its history the Quartet consisted of John Lewis (piano), Milt Jackson (vibraphone), Percy Heath, and Connie Kay (drums). The group grew out of the rhythm section of Dizzy Gillespie's big band from 1946 to 1948, which consisted of Lewis and Jackson along with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Kenny Clarke. They recorded as the Milt Jackson Quartet in 1951 and Brown left the group, being replaced on bass by Heath. During the early-to-mid-1950s they became the Modern Jazz Quartet, Lewis became the group's musical director, and they made several recordings with Prestige Records, including the original versions of their two best-known compositions, Lewis's "Django" and Jackson's "Bags' Groove". Clarke left the group in 1955 and was replaced as drummer by Connie Kay, and in 1956 they moved to Atlantic Records and made their first tour to Europe.
William Richard Frisell is an American guitarist, composer and arranger. Frisell came to prominence as a jazz guitarist at ECM Records in the 1980s, and went on to work in a variety of contexts, notably as a member of the New York City Downtown Scene where he formed a long partnership with John Zorn. He was also a longtime member of Paul Motian's groups from the early 1980s until Motian's death in 2011. Since 2000, Frisell's output as a bandleader has included folk, country music, and Americana.
Percy Heath was an American jazz bassist, brother of saxophonist Jimmy Heath and drummer Albert Heath, with whom he formed the Heath Brothers in 1975. Heath played with the Modern Jazz Quartet throughout their long history and also worked with Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Wes Montgomery, and Thelonious Monk.
Toshiko Akiyoshi is a Japanese-American jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader.
Gary Burton is an American jazz vibraphonist, composer, and educator. Burton developed a pianistic style of four-mallet technique as an alternative to the prevailing two-mallet technique. This approach caused him to be heralded as an innovator, and his sound and technique are widely imitated. He is also known for pioneering fusion jazz and popularizing the duet format in jazz, as well as being a major figure in music education from his 30 years at the Berklee College of Music.
Joseph Salvatore Lovano is an American jazz saxophonist, alto clarinetist, flautist, and drummer. He has earned a Grammy Award and several mentions on Down Beat magazine's critics' and readers' polls. He is married to jazz singer Judi Silvano with whom he records and performs. Lovano was a longtime member of a trio led by drummer Paul Motian.
Sadao Watanabe is a Japanese jazz musician who plays alto saxophone, sopranino saxophone, and flute. He is known for his bossa nova recordings, although his work encompasses many styles, with collaborations from musicians all over the world.
David Alan Samuels was an American vibraphone and marimba player who spent many years with the contemporary jazz group Spyro Gyra. His recordings and live performances during that period also reflect his prowess on the steelpan, a tuned percussion instrument of Trinidadian origin.
Kenny Barron is an American jazz pianist, who has appeared on hundreds of recordings as leader and sideman and is considered one of the most influential mainstream jazz pianists since the bebop era.
John Laird Abercrombie was an American jazz guitarist. His work explored jazz fusion, free jazz, and avant-garde jazz. Abercrombie studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. He was known for his understated style and his work with organ trios.
Danilo Pérez is a Panamanian pianist, composer, educator, and a social activist. His music is a blend of Panamanian roots with elements of Latin American folk music, jazz, European impressionism, African, and other musical heritages that promote music as a multi-dimensional bridge between people. He has released eleven albums as a leader, and appeared on many recordings as a side man, which have earned him critical acclaim, numerous accolades, Grammy Awards wins and nominations. He is a recipient of the United States Artists Fellowship, and the 2009 Smithsonian Legacy Award.
Miguel Zenón is a Puerto Rican alto saxophonist, composer, band leader, music producer, and educator. He is a multiple Grammy Award nominee, and the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and a MacArthur Fellowship. Zenón has released many albums as a band leader and appeared on over 70 recordings as a sideman.
Christian Scott, known professionally as Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, is an American trumpeter and composer. Adjuah is a two-time Edison Award, winner, the recipient of the JazzFM Innovator of the year Award in 2016, and has been nominated for five Grammy Awards. Adjuah is the grandson of Big Chief Donald Harrison Sr., the nephew of multiple genre jazz saxophonist NEA Jazz Master Donald Harrison Jr., and is a chieftain in the Afro New Orleanian Tribes, also known as Black Indians.
