Alphy Ngire (born 20 November 2001) is a Solomon Islands-Cook Islands footballer who plays as a forward. He currently plays for Matavera-Ngatangiia in the Cook Islands Round Cup.
Alphy has been playing football since he was 4 years old after watching others play the sport and playing with his father. He started playing football in 2013 with Nikao's youth squad [1] and joined the men's team at an unknown time. [2]
He played with Nikao in their 2021 Cook Islands Round Cup, being crowned champions of the league and cup but didn't feature in their 2022 OFC Champions League squad. [3]
In 2024, he transferred to Matavera-Ngatangiia. [1]
In an interview with The News Of Oceania Football, he described the Cook Islands Round Cup as being at a "very low standard", and the level being "not as high as Australia and New Zealand". He also stated that he believes the Cook Islands national football team could compete at the highest level, but they would need to train hard and be more consistent. [4]
Alphy operates as a midfielder, right winger, left winger and striker. [4]
The Cook Islands News and CIFA Media described him as being a playmaker and having attacking prowess, flair, finesse in the final third and being able to find space in the box. [5] [1]
Alphy dreams of becoming a professional footballer and playing for West Ham United, Barcelona or Manchester City. [4]
He has also won the Te Mira Ura best expatriate dancer. [6]
He works for the Pacific Resort Rarotonga, where he won the Employer of the Year 2024. [7]
Although growing up in the Cook Islands, he does not qualify for the national team because of their strict requirements. [4]
