His "retro" style incorporates elements of rock, blues, soul, R&B, funk, jazz, reggae, hard rock, psychedelic, pop, folk, and ballads. In addition to singing lead and backing vocals, Kravitz often plays all of the instruments himself when recording.

Brody Dalle is an Australian-born singer-songwriter and guitarist. Dalle began playing music in her adolescence, and moved to Los Angeles, California at age eighteen, where she founded the punk rock band The Distillers. The group released three albums before disbanding in 2006. Dalle began another project, Spinnerette, releasing an eponymous album in 2009. In 2014, she released Diploid Love, her first album under her solo name.

"My President" also is notable for the unified collaboration between the two artists, who had been having a feud since the 2006 release of Nas' album Hip Hop Is Dead, which contained statements to which Young Jeezy took offense.

It was the only song in the album not to be produced by West. The song samples Smokey Robinson's slow jam recording "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", and is themed lyrically to lust and heartache. Both the topics of love and religion serve as the main inspiration to the song.

Rob Me Blind is the third studio album of independent singer songwriter Jay Brannan after his albums Goddamned in 2008 and In Living Cover in 2009. The 10-track album on his own independent Great Depression Records was released on 27 March 2012 and was produced by Grammy-winning producer David Kahne who had produced albums for artists like Tony Bennett, Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor and others. With Kahne, he experimented in this new album with new arrangements and even using some percussion instruments, although in his earlier material, he had tried to stay away from such usage, saying they were too loud. The result is still acoustic and melodic but with "some additional texture to it" as he put it in an interview with Instinct magazine
