Amadu Sulley is a Ghanaian public servant who is a former Deputy Chairperson of Electoral Commission of Ghana. [3]
Amadu Sulley had his elementary school education at Ghana National School (now Richard Akwei Memorial School) in Accra. He attended Accra Academy and Opoku Ware School for the Ordinary level and Advanced level certificates respectively. He continued to the University of Ghana and studied for a Diploma in Statistics obtained in 1985. He obtained a Post Graduate Certificate and Diploma in Public Administration at Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration in 1993 and 1995 respectively. His project work was on the Ghanaian Electoral System. [4]
He was appointed as deputy chairperson of the Ghanaian Electoral Commission in 2012 by then president,John Evans Atta-Mills. [1] He had previously served as the Director of Research Monitoring and Evaluation at the same Commission until his promotion to the rank as Deputy chairperson. Sulley's appointment to the rank of a deputy chairperson was the first time a career electoral personnel had been appointed to that high rank. [5] He served as the deputy chairperson in charge of operations at the Electoral Commission of Ghana until his dismissal in June 2018 for allegedly illegally transferring votes during the 2016 Ghanaian general election. Joseph Arthur Ankrah was a Ghanaian army general who was head of state of Ghana from 1966 to 1969 as Chairman of the National Liberation Council. He was Ghana's first military head of state. Ankrah also served as Chairperson of the Organisation of African Unity from 24 February 1966 to 5 November 1966. Previously,Ankrah was appointed the first commander of the Ghana Army in 1961.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) is the official body in Ghana responsible for all public elections. Made up of seven members,its independence is guaranteed by the 1992 Ghana constitution. The current commission was established by the Electoral Commission Act (Act 451) of 1993. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan was the first substantive chairman of the commission,from 1993 to 2015. He was succeeded by Charlotte Osei as the first female chairman of the commission from 2015 to June 2018. Jean Adukwei Mensah succeeded Charlotte Osei in July 2018. On December 5,2018,the Electoral commission chaired by Jean Adukwei Mensah reverted to the old logo showing the Coat of arms of Ghana and a ballot box showing the hand casting its votes,after the controversy over the new logo.

Before his appointment on the court,he formed and headed a permanent electoral commission to conduct the 1969 Ghanaian Election. He chaired the Constituent Assembly of 1979 that deliberated over and presented a constitution for Ghana's Third Republic before his reappointment to the supreme court.
Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei is the UN International Elections Commissioner,a Ghanaian lawyer and former chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana from 2015 until she was dismissed in June 2018 on grounds of financial malfeasance. Her dismissal has been challenged in the Supreme Court of Ghana by two separate writs. She became the first female to serve in the office of the Electoral Commission of Ghana since the independence of Ghana. Before her appointment she was the chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education. In May 2019,she was appointed by the United Nations to be on a team of international advisors,to assist in managing the 2019 presidential elections in Afghanistan.
