Amari Avery (born December 30, 2004) [1] is an American amateur golfer who plays for the USC Trojans woman's golf team. She was featured in the 2013 films The Short Game and Trophy Kids.

Early life and education

Her father is African-American and her mother Filipino. [2] She began taking golf lessons in Anaheim, California before she entered kindergarten. [3] Avery was one of eight entrants into the 2012 U. S. Kids Golf tournament featured in the film The Short Game . [4] She was eight years old at the time. [5] She was also featured in the 2013 film Trophy Kids. [6]

In August 2020, Avery committed to play golf at the University of Southern California. [2]

Career

By the age of six, Avery had won dozens of youth golf tournaments which included the Junior World Golf Championships. [2] [3]

In 2021 she played in the Augusta National Women's Amateur, [2] finishing 29th in the field. [7]

In 2023, she played in the Chevron Championship, her third start as an amateur on the LPGA Tour and the first time making the cut at a tour event. [8] The same year, she played in the U.S. Women's Open, tying for 48th place. [9]

The Short Game is a 2013 documentary film about 7- and 8-year-old golfers. Produced by Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel and directed by Josh Greenbaum, it presents eight entrants in the 2012 U.S. Kids Golf World Championship. The film premiered in 10 cities on September 20, 2013.

Nanna Koerstz Madsen is a Danish professional golfer who plays on the American LPGA Tour and maintains membership of the Ladies European Tour (LET). She won the 2022 Honda LPGA Thailand and made history becoming the first Dane to win an LPGA Tour event. She played in the 2021 Solheim Cup and represented Denmark at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where she finished tied for 13th, and at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo where she finished tied for 9th.
