Amari Odom (born May 4, 2025) is an American college football quarterback for the Kennesaw State Owls. He previously played for the Wofford Terriers.
Odom's parents were both professional athletes in former football linebacker DeWayne Odom and former WNBA player and coach Trisha Stafford-Odom. [1] [2] He attended Panther Creek High School in Cary, North Carolina. Odom was a dual-sport athlete, playing both football and basketball at Panther Creek. As a sophomore, he threw for 2,087 yards and 24 touchdowns and led the team to an 8–1 season. With their record, Odom and his team advanced to the Elite Eight of the state playoffs. [3] During the 2020-21 basketball season, Odom averaged 7.9 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, and 3.3 assists per game. [4] In his junior year, he completed 251 out of his 453 pass attempts for 3,729 yards and 40 touchdowns. Odom also rushed for 335 yards and 5 touchdowns. The team went 10–4 during the regular season and once again made it to the Elite Eight in the state playoffs, but lost to eventual 4A state champions Cardinal Gibbons. [5] Following the 2021 football season, Odom continued to play basketball for Panther Creek. On January 31st, 2022, Odom tore his ACL in his right knee during a game against Middle Creek. [5] This would sideline him for the rest of the 2021-22 basketball season and his entire senior year of football.
During his senior year, Odom received offers from UNLV, East Carolina, Massachusetts, Furman, and Wofford. [6] He committed to play college football for the Wofford Terriers.
As a true freshman in 2023, Odom made his collegiate debut in the final game of the season against Furman, He completed 9 of 18 passes and threw for 92 yards and one interception. [3]
Entering the 2024 season as a redshirt freshman, Odom was announced as the team's starting quarterback. [7] In his first start with the team, he had a 62.9% completion percentage and threw for 260 yards and 1 touchdown to a 21–20 victory against Gardner–Webb. In week two against Richmond, Odom threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns to second win for the team. [8] Week three saw Odom's first loss to William & Mary. During the week four matchup against top 25 FCS ranked team Mercer, Odom had a subpar performance, only throwing for 67 yards and completing 40.9% of his passes as well as three interceptions. [9] Mid-way through the game, head coach Shawn Watson elected to bench Odom in favor of backup Pauly Seeley V. Following the loss 22–3 loss, the team stayed with Seeley as their starter for the next four weeks. [10] Odom was renamed the starter headed into week nine against Samford. In his first week back as the starting quarterback, Odom completed 12 of 20 passes and threw for 203 yards and one interception to a 17–13 victory. [11] Week ten saw Odom once again throw for over 200 yards against Furman for a 19–13 win. [12] Odom would lose the final two games of the season against The Citadel and FBS opponent South Carolina. [13] He finished the year with a 4–4 record and threw for 1,565 yards, 7 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Following season's end, Odom entered the transfer portal. [14]
Odom moved up from the FCS to the FBS level and transferred to Kennesaw State for the 2025 season. [15] He competed with fellow transfer quarterback Dexter Williams II for the starting role. Williams would win out the competition and was named the starter going into week one. [16] Odom made his debut for the Owls in week three against Merrimack. [17] He split time with Williams and completed 85.7% of his passes, throwing for 108 yards passing and one touchdown en route to a 27–13 victory. Headed into the week four matchup against Arkansas State, Odom would make his first start for the team. He had a standout performance, throwing for 308 yards and one touchdown as well as adding 101 yards on the ground. [18] During week five against Middle Tennessee, Odom suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder (right arm) in the fourth quarter. [19] He would sit out the next game against Lousiana Tech before returning in week seven at FIU.
