The American Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences (ARA) [1] is a scholarly organization dedicated to the analysis, study and dissemination of Romanian contributions and accomplishments. To enhance these efforts, ARA combines Western and Romanian intellectual traditions, encourages communications and serves as a point d'appui in the Western World for Romanian academics and intellectuals. ARA is duly incorporated in the State of California as a non-profit tax-exempt organization. It is organized in conformity with the pertinent laws and regulations of the state of California and the United States of America. ARA conducts and supports multidisciplinary studies in exact sciences, mathematics, natural sciences, and also supports the arts, linguistics, literature, political studies and sociology. As an institution its main goal is to foster cultural exchanges between the American and Romanian cultures. [2] ARA was founded in California in 1975 by a group of American-Romanians, and in 2014 has 119 elected members, 81 corresponding members, and 59 honorary members.
ARA organizes annual congresses, and publishes ARA Congress Proceedings, [3] books and the ARA Newsletter for its membership. [4]
The Romanian branch of ARA [5] has its center in Timișoara, Romania, that is closely coordinated with the US main organization.
ARA is supporting specific research activities in the following areas:
Anthropology, Applied Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Economy, Education, Engineering, Environment, History, Law, Linguistics, Literature, Medical Informatics, Medicine, Political Science, Philosophy, Physics, Theology.
ARA Congress: Every year, ARA organizes a Congress that provides an open forum for intellectuals to present their ideas and achievements in fields such as literature, philosophy, medicine, social sciences, arts, engineering, mathematics, physics, and chemistry etc. The highlight of the annual congress is its Proceedings which is published on an annual basis. Emil Constantinescu is a Romanian professor and politician, who served as the President of Romania, from 1996 to 2000.
The University of Bucharest, commonly known after its abbreviation UB in Romania, is a public university founded in its current form on 4 July 1864 by a decree of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza to convert the former Princely Academy into the current University of Bucharest, making one of the oldest modern Romanian universities. It is one of the five members of the Universitaria Consortium.
Radu Beligan was a Romanian actor, director, and essayist, with an activity of over 70 years in theatre, film, television, and radio. On 15 December 2013, confirmed by Guinness World Records, the actor received the title of "The oldest active theatre actor" on the planet. He was elected honorary member of the Romanian Academy in 2004.
Mircea Ion Snegur was a Moldovan agronomist and politician who served as the first president of Moldova from 1990 to 1997. Before that, he served as the chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldovan SSR from 1989 to 1990 and chairman of the Supreme Soviet from 27 April to 3 September 1990.
Acad. Prof. Dr. Honoris Causa Ion Irimescu was one of Romania's greatest sculptors and sketchers as well as a member of the Romanian Academy. In 2001 he was awarded the Prize of Excellence for Romanian Culture. He is often referred to as the "patriarch of Romanian art and sculpture".
Ion Horia Leonida Caramitru, OBE was a Romanian stage and film actor, stage director, and political figure. He was Minister of Culture between 1996 and 2000, in the Romanian Democratic Convention (CDR) cabinets of Victor Ciorbea, Gavril Dejeu, Radu Vasile, Alexandru Athanasiu, and Mugur Isărescu. He was married to actress Micaela Caracaș and had three sons: Ștefan, Andrei, and Matei Caramitru. He was a relevant figure of the Aromanian community of Romania.

Lieutenant General Teodor Frunzeti was the chief of the Romanian Land Forces Staff from 3 November 2006 to 17 March 2009.
Daniel is the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church. The elections took place on 12 September 2007. Daniel won with a majority of 95 votes out of 161 against Bartolomeu Anania. He was officially enthroned on 30 September 2007 in the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest. As such, his official title is "Archbishop of Bucharest, Metropolitan of Muntenia and Dobrogea, Locum tenens of the throne of Caesarea of Cappadocia, Patriarch of All Romania".
Gábor Tompa is an internationally renowned Hungarian theater and film director, poet, essayist and teacher. Between 2007 and 2016 he was the Head of Directing at the Theatre and Dance Department of the University of California, San Diego. He is the general and artistic director of the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj since 1990, the theatre is member of the Union of the Theatres of Europe (UTE) since 2008. Founder and artistic director of the Interferences International Theatre Festival in Cluj, Romania. President of the Union of the Theatres of Europe since 2018.
Păun Ion Otiman is a Romanian agricultural scientist and economist, University Professor, member of the Romanian Academy, Romanian Senator and former Rector of the Banat University of Agronomical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine.
The Simion Stoilow Prize is the prize offered by the Romanian Academy for achievements in mathematics. It is named in honor of Simion Stoilow.
Mihai Cimpoi is a Moldovan politician, a distinguished cultural scientist, Romanian academician, critic and literary historian, eminescologist, literary editor and Bessarabian essayist. "Emeritus of the Republic of Moldova", two decades elected president of the Union of Writers of Moldova, deputy in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova between 1999 and 2001, Mihai Cimpoi is the author of some fundamental works such as: "An Open History of the Romanian literature in Bessarabia" and "Mihai Eminescu. Encyclopedic Dictionary" - a unique monumental work. Mihai Cimpoi is the author and developer of the long-term project "The World Congress of Eminescologists", launched in 2012 and became a tradition.
The Democratic Forum of the Romanians of Moldova is a civic movement, which brings together over 120 NGOs, several leading public organizations of Moldova and a whole number of academicians, writers, journalists. In 2006, the organization claimed 100,000 members.
