Ameritest is an international advertising research firm, headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which provides its clients with worldwide market research on their advertising concepts, and executions.

The company was founded in 1990 in Chicago, Illinois by Charles E. Young. Ameritest, d.b.a. CY Research, uses highly visual or non-verbal approaches to measuring advertising in a variety of media, including television, print, direct response, packaging, internet and branded entertainment.

Heuristic Models

The primary tools used by the company to illustrate how advertising works are heuristic models created by Young. The purpose of these models is to focus attention on learning how and why an ad is, or is not, working with the goal of improving or optimizing ad performance. The models are organized into a hierarchy that attempts to bridge the divide between report card systems and diagnostic systems.

As a pre-testing, or copy testing system, Ameritest’s television model is intended to explain how the audience perceives motion media including television, online, film, and other forms of branded entertainment. The print model is meant to address print media including newspaper, magazines, Direct Response, catalog, and outdoor advertising.

Awards

Ameritest is the winner of six David Ogilvy Research Awards including the Grand Award for its work with IBM’s “Blue Letterbox” ad campaign.

Advertising Form of communication for marketing, typically paid for

Advertising is a marketing communication that employs an openly sponsored, non-personal message to promote or sell a product, service or idea. Sponsors of advertising are typically businesses wishing to promote their products or services. Advertising is differentiated from public relations in that an advertiser pays for and has control over the message. It differs from personal selling in that the message is non-personal, i.e., not directed to a particular individual. Advertising is communicated through various mass media, including traditional media such as newspapers, magazines, television, radio, outdoor advertising or direct mail; and new media such as search results, blogs, social media, websites or text messages. Sex in advertising is the use of sex appeal in advertising to help sell a particular product or service. According to research, sexually appealing imagery used for marketing does not need to pertain to the product or service in question. A few examples of sexually appealing imagery include nudity, pin-up models, and muscular men. "Sex sells" became a controversial issue, with techniques for enlarging and titillating the audience challenging conventional moral standards.

David Ogilvy (businessman)

David Mackenzie Ogilvy was a British advertising tycoon, founder of Ogilvy & Mather, and known as the "Father of Advertising". Trained at the Gallup research organisation, he attributed the success of his campaigns to meticulous research into consumer habits.

Ogilvy (agency) Advertising agency

Ogilvy is a New York City-based British advertising, marketing, and public relations agency. It was founded in 1850 by Edmund Mather as a London-based agency. In 1964, the firm became known as Ogilvy & Mather after merging with a New York City agency that was founded in 1948 by David Ogilvy. The agency is now part of the WPP Group, one of the largest advertising and public relations companies in the world. The company provides services in six areas: brand strategy, advertising, customer engagement and commerce, public relations and influence, digital transformation, and partnerships. The company's strategy division OgilvyRED became Ogilvy Consulting.

The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty is a worldwide marketing campaign launched by Unilever in 2004 aiming to build self confidence in women and young children. Dove's partners in the campaign included Ogilvy & Mather, Edelman Public Relations, and Harbinger Communications along with other consultants. Part of the overall project was the "Evolution" campaign.

FCB (advertising agency)

Foote, Cone & Belding, a.k.a.FCB, is one of the largest global advertising agency networks. It is owned by Interpublic Group and was merged in 2006 with Draft Worldwide, adopting the name Draftfcb. In 2014 the company rebranded itself as FCB.

Evolution (advertisement) Advertising campaign by Unilever in 2006

Evolution, also called The Evolution Of Beauty, is an advertising campaign launched by Unilever in 2006 as part of its Dove Campaign for Real Beauty, to promote the newly created Dove Self-Esteem Fund. The centre of the Unilever campaign is a 75-second spot produced by Ogilvy & Mather in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The piece was first displayed online on 6 October 2006, and was later broadcast as a television and cinema spot in the Netherlands and the Middle East. The ad was created from the budget left over from the earlier Daughters campaign, and was intended to be the first in a series of such online-focused campaigns by the company. Later such videos include Onslaught and Amy.Evolution was directed by Canadian director Yael Staav and Tim Piper, with sound design handled by the Vapor Music Group, and post-production by SoHo.

Advertising Research Foundation

The Advertising Research Foundation (ARF) is a nonprofit industry association for creating, aggregating, synthesizing and sharing knowledge in the fields of advertising and media. It was founded in 1936 by the Association of National Advertisers and the American Association of Advertising Agencies. Its stated mission is to improve the practice of advertising, marketing and media research in pursuit of more effective marketing and advertising communications. Its membership consists of over 400 advertisers, advertising agencies, research firms, media companies, educational institutions and international organizations.

Targeted advertising Form of advertising

Targeted advertising is a form of advertising, including online advertising, that is directed towards an audience with certain traits, based on the product or person the advertiser is promoting. These traits can either be demographic with a focus on race, economic status, sex, age, generation, level of education, income level, and employment, or psychographic focused on the consumer values, personality, attitude, opinion, lifestyle and interest. This focus can also entail behavioral variables, such as browser history, purchase history, and other recent online activities. Targeted advertising is concentrated in certain traits and consumers who are likely to have a strong preference. These individuals will receive messages instead of those who have no interest and whose preferences do not match a particular product's attributes. This eliminates waste.

Brand Keys is a brand research consultancy specializing in predictive consumer behavioral brand equity, loyalty, and engagement metrics. Brand Keys is headquartered in New York, NY and has offices in Dublin, Dubai, London, Madrid, Sydney, and Tokyo.

Allan "Jo" Johnston is an Australian advertising creative executive and copywriter who was successful as a jingle writer, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s. Together with his long-time business partner Alan Morris, he formed the Australian advertising agency Mojo which enjoyed much Australian and some international success in the 1980s and whose name survived until 2016 as Publicis Mojo, the Australian subsidiary of the French multinational advertising and communications company holding Publicis Groupe.

Kristin Luck American businesswoman

Kristin Luck is an American businesswoman. She is a consultant and public speaker, specializing in nontraditional marketing and branding strategies. Prior to launching her own practice, she was company president and CMO of Decipher, a marketing research services provider. She originally took the role in 2007 after Decipher acquired her start-up, Forefront Consulting Group. Decipher was acquired by FocusVision in 2015.

Bromley is a full-service Hispanic and Transcultural Advertising Agency founded in 1981. 51 percent majority minority-owned by Ernest Bromley, Chairman/CEO, and 49 percent by Publicis Groupe S.A., the fourth largest marketing communications holding firm in the world. Bromley is based in Downtown San Antonio in the U.S. state of Texas.

Turtledove Clemens is an American privately owned integrated marketing communications agency based in Portland, Oregon. The company has produced work for Oregon for Kennedy (1960), Oregon State Health Division (1987) and Oil Can Henry's. Founded by Earl Heims in 1942, it is one of the oldest currently operating advertising agencies in Oregon.

History of advertising

The history of advertising can be traced to ancient civilizations. It became a major force in capitalist economies in the mid-19th century, based primarily on newspapers and magazines. In the 20th century, advertising grew rapidly with new technologies such as direct mail, radio, television, the internet and mobile devices.
