Amina Ahmed El-Imam (born 27 July 1983) is a Nigerian microbiologist, academic and politician who is Commissioner for Health in Kwara State. She is a Native of Offa, Kwara State and senior lecturer in microbiology at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Born on 27 July 1983, in Nigeria, El-Imam obtained a microbiology degrees at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. [5] She was on a 9-month fellowship as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina. [6]
Ahmed El-Imam, a senior lecturer specializing in food and industrial microbiology at the University of Ilorin, is serving as a faculty member in microbiology. She completed her Ph.D. in Biological Systems and Organisms at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom in 2017. Her academic journey also includes a Master's degree in the same field from Ahmadu Bello University in 2007 and an undergraduate degree in Biological Systems and Organisms from the same university in 2003. El-Imam is a senior lecturer in microbiology at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, specializing in food and industrial microbiology. [8] Her research has primarily focused on food preservation and understanding the microorganisms associated with the spoilage of various traditional foods. El-Imam assumed the position of Kwara State Commissioner for Health on September 5, 2023 [10] after being nominated on July 27, 2023 [11] and receiving confirmation on August 29, 2023. [12]
El-Imam joined the Advisory Board of PressPayNg, an Education Technology Company offering creative funding solutions for tertiary institution students in Nigeria. [13] She authored two books, "Knowing Microbes" and "Time Management for Professional Women," which were launched on her birthday. [14]
El-Imam's appointment as Kwara State Honourable Commissioner For Health was confirmed on August 29, 2023.
El-Imam is a member of the Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World. [15]
El-Imam, actively participated in various initiatives. These included medical outreach programs across the state, a visitation to Offa Specialist Hospital, [16] and an official visit to a victim of a fallen tree in Ilorin. [17] Additionally, she played a key role in the flag-off of the 2023 Measles Campaign and Routine Immunization Outreach in Ilorin [18] The Governor's approval of a statewide health outreach further underscored the significance of these efforts. [19] Moreover, Dr. El-Imam took charge of the Cancer Treatment Center, [20] addressing the alarming statistic of 62,000 annual cancer deaths in Nigeria, as highlighted by Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq on October 6, 2023. [21] This comprehensive approach reflects her commitment to enhancing healthcare and addressing critical health issues in Kwara State.

University of Ilorin, also known as Unilorin, is a federal government-owned university in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. The university sits on an expansive area of land, about 15,000 hectares in the ancient city of Ilorin; making it the largest university in Nigeria and one of the largest in Africa by landmass. The university comprises 17 faculties and over 100 academic departments. It was established by a decree of the federal military government in August, 1975. The establishment aimed to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan, which was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high-level manpower, which is vital for the rapidly expanding economy. Compared to other higher institutions of learning in the country, the institution has one of the largest land areas, covering approximately 15,000 hectares of land. It is reported by Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) to be the most sought-after Nigerian university in 2021. And again in 2023, it was announced by the JAMB Head, Professor Ishaq Oloyede to be the sought-after University, for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), making it for the 10th consecutive year.

Amina Adamu Aliyu is a Nigerian judge from Kano State She was born in Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State. She pursued her Bachelor of Laws at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, graduating in 1986, and subsequently completed her legal training at the Nigerian Law School, being called to the bar in May 1989. Aliyu started her career as a state counsel in the Kano State Ministry of Justice in 1989, eventually rising to the position of Deputy Director Civil Litigation by 2009 when she became a High Court Judge. Notable cases include chairing the election petition tribunals in Kwara State in 2020 and Kebbi State in the 2019 Nigerian general election. Aliyu also presided over cases involving issues such as irregularities in the selection process of the Kano Emirate Throne and heinous crimes, delivering judgments that led to convictions and sentences.
The 2019 Kwara State gubernatorial election occurred on March 9, 2019. APC's AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq polled 73.12% of the total votes, ahead of PDP's Razak Atunwa who got 25.31% of votes trailing behind by a margin of 216,792 votes, and several minor party candidates. APC won in all 16 LGAs of the state.
The 2023 Kwara State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Kwara State, concurrent with elections to the Kwara State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections.
