Aminul Islam (born 15 June 1969) [1] is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Chapai Nawabganj-2 constituency. [2] [3] He resigned from the position on 11 December 2022. [4]
Islam was elected to parliament from Chapai Nawabganj-2 as a Bangladesh Nationalist Party candidate 30 December 2018. [5]
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is a major political party in Bangladesh. Founded on 1 September 1978 by the late Bangladeshi president Ziaur Rahman,with a view of uniting people with a nationalist ideology,BNP later came out as one of the two most dominant parties in Bangladesh,along with its archrival Awami League. Initially being a big tent centrist party,it moved towards more right-wing politics later.
On 17 August 2005,around 500 bomb explosions occurred at 300 locations in 63 out of the 64 districts of Bangladesh. The bombs exploded within a half-hour period starting from 11:30 am. A terrorist organization,Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) claimed responsibility for the bombings. The group,led by Shaykh Abdur Rahman and Siddiqur Rahman. Another terrorist group,named Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami,was associated with JMB in executing the co-ordinated attack. Following the bombings,both groups were banned by the BNP Government of Bangladesh.

As the 11th parliament is scheduled to be expire on 29 January 2024 and the Election Commission has announced to hold the next Bangladeshi general election between late December 2023 to early January 2024,all candidates elected by these by-polls will be members of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad.
