Amrita Hunjan (born 25 June 1984) is a British-Indian model and singer. She is known for being a singer in the R'n'B/pop band Rouge. Amrita is also known in the British Asian community for being the winner of Miss India UK 2004 and Miss India Worldwide 2005. She was ranked as the 20th most sexy Asian woman in the world by Eastern Eye in 2007. [1]

Early life

Amrita was born in Leeds and claims to be "Yorkshire born and bred". [2] She is 5 feet 6 inches tall (1.68 m). [3] She studied dentistry at Birmingham University. [3]

Miss India and Rouge

Amrita won Miss India UK 2004. A rendition of Maria McKee's 'Show Me Heaven' saw her singing voice being compared to the likes of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. [4] She then won the "Miss India Worldwide" competition held in New Delhi, India in January 2005.

With friend Laura Ismail and fellow band member Legha Yousuf, they formed the band Rouge in 2005. Over the next year, they released they appeared on the single by Zeus feat. Rouge, "Don't Be Shy", and the subsequent self-titled debut album. Hunjan has performed in New York, Dubai, and the netherlands.

Future plans

In 2008, Amrita was reported to be focusing on her studies, with the next Rouge album set to be produced by Timbaland in Miami. [5] She was reportedly writing and recording with Rouge, and they were said to be "in no rush to release it until they get it right". [6]

Steven Kapur, known by the stage name Apache Indian, is a British singer-songwriter and reggae DJ. He had a series of hits during the 1990s. He is best known in the UK for the song "Boom Shack-A-Lak", which reached the top ten during August 1993.

UK Asian Music Awards Music Award held in the United Kingdom

The UK Asian Music Awards, also known by the abbreviation UK AMA, was an awards show that was held annually in the United Kingdom from 2002 to 2012. The awards show has been produced and broadcast by B4U Music since 2008. Awards winners were decided by public voting at a website, from a list of nominees presented by the event organizers, except for the special category awards "Outstanding Achievement" and "Commitment to Scene" which are decided by the organizers. Desimag called the event "The most prestigious Asian music awards ceremony in the UK".

Jaswinder Singh Dhami, better known as Jaz Dhami, is a British-Indian playback singer, music composer, music producer, and performer.

Miss India Worldwide 2005 was the 14th edition of the international beauty pageant. The final was held in Mumbai, India on January 9, 2005. About 16 countries were represented in the pageant. Amrita Hunjan of the United Kingdom was crowned as the winner at the end of the event.

Miss India Worldwide is a beauty pageant which draws contestants from India and from among members of the Indian diaspora residing in other countries. It is conducted by India Festival Committee (IFC), first founded and headed by Dharmatma Saran in New York City, USA.
