Amy Sauer is a retired American soccer player who played for the San Diego Spirit. [1]
Sauer grew up in Spring, Texas, [2] the daughter of Donald and Mary Ellen Sauer and the younger sister of A. J. Sauer, who played for Stanford's men's soccer team form 1995 to 1999. [3] She attended from Klein Oak High School, then Stanford University, [4] graduating in 2001. [2]
Considered one of the top 15 recruits in the country, Sauer played for Stamford, Texas soccer team from 1998 to 2001, [2] playing in every game and starting in most. [3]
In 2002, she made her professional debut with the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), where she was selected to play for the San Diego Spirit in the second round of the draft. [4] She was released from the team in 2003. [5]
Julie Maurine Foudy is an American retired soccer midfielder, two-time FIFA Women's World Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist. She played for the United States women's national soccer team from 1988 to 2004. Foudy finished her international career with 274 caps and served as the team's captain from 2000 to 2004 as well as the co-captain from 1991 to 2000. In 1997, she was the first American and first woman to receive the FIFA Fair Play Award.
