Career

Andrew Leker was an undergraduate student in physics and applied mathematics at UC Berkeley in the early 1980s, when he began to develop a roleplaying game with the very alien world of Jorune for a setting, which was initially a variant of Metamorphosis Alpha by TSR. [1] :201 Leker started his own company SkyRealms Publishing and self-published his RPG SkyRealms of Jorune (1984). [1] :201 Leker had finished college by the late 1980s, and began a career in the computer gaming field. [1] :202 Leker founded a company called Mind Control Software in 1994. [2] The first project from this new company was the computer game Alien Logic (1994), which was based on his world of Jorune and was published by SSI. [1] :202 Later he produced Silencer (beta), [3] and the IGF awarded Oasis (2005). [4] [5]

Skyrealms of Jorune is a science-fantasy role-playing game that was first published in 1984 through SkyRealms Publishing. The game is set on the fictional alien planet of Jorune above which float levitating islands. The second edition was published in 1986 as a boxed set, and a third edition was published by Chessex in 1992. The computer game Alien Logic: A Skyrealms of Jorune Adventure was published in 1994. Silencer is an online, multiplayer-only video game by Mind Control Software that was published by the World Opponent Network (WON.net) for free play on their website in January 2000. It features capture-the-flag-style gameplay—common in 3D first-person shooter arenas at the time—but presents it in a low-resource 2D package. The game was released by WON.net as an open beta. It saw a number of beta updates before it was removed, without explanation, from WON.net's website in September 2000 and the multiplayer servers shut down in October 2000. Silencer is a bit of an anomaly in that it managed to spawn a fan-made WONswap site, 7 known fansites, plus a legacy of independent multiplayer servers and game clones, from its short run as an open beta on WON.net.
