Andrews Field, formerly known as Westbran Stadium, is a baseball stadium located in the city of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. The stadium is currently home to the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks of the summer-collegiate Expedition League. [4]

History

Westbran Stadium, as it was originally known, was constructed in 1987 at a cost of $1.3 million. [5] Since its opening, the stadium has hosted a number of provincial, national, and international tournaments, including two World Under-18 Championships, two Canadian Senior Championships, and the 1997 Canada Summer Games baseball tournament. [6] During the 1997 Summer Games, a TSN broadcaster commented that Westbran Stadium was "as good as many Triple-A fields". [5]

In 2007, the stadium was renamed Andrews Field in recognition of the late Neil Andrews, a long time volunteer and local baseball executive. [7] The ballpark was renovated and refurbished in 2019 in preparation for the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks, who began play in the Expedition League for the 2019 season. [8]

Andrews Field was among the top eight chosen for Canada's Favourite Ballpark, a contest held in 2011 by Baseball Canada. [6] [7]

The stadium has a capacity of 23,420, the result of a renovation project begun in 2009 that increased capacity from 20,202 to over 25,000 before seats were removed in 2014 to reduce capacity to its current level.

Bowling Green Ballpark is a 4,559-seat stadium in Downtown Bowling Green, Kentucky. It is primarily used for baseball and is home to the Bowling Green Hot Rods of the High-A East of Minor League Baseball. This state-of-the-art stadium opened with Citizens First Opening Night on April 17, 2009 to a standing room only crowd of 6,886. The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators 8–4 in this much anticipated opening game that brought professional baseball to Bowling Green for the first time in 67 years. Many ceremonial "first" pitches were thrown, and the starting lineup of the Hot Rods were driven onto the field by locally owned vintage Hot Rods. The offices for the Bowling Green Hot Rods and several other touches were finally completed after the 2009 season.

The Expedition League is a collegiate summer baseball league in the Great Plains region of the United States and Canada. The league was founded in May 2017 in Rapid City, South Dakota, by businessman Steve Wagner, who also serves as president. The league featured eight teams in its inaugural season that began in May 2018. It added the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks and the Fremont Moo for the 2019 season. It currently has 12 teams as of the 2021 season.
