Anel Manuel De Los Santos (born June 19,1988) is a Dominican baseball coach in the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball (MLB) system and former minor league baseball player. He previously served as bullpen catcher for the major league team from 2016 to 2018 after being appointed by then-manager Mike Scioscia.
De Los Santos opened his career with the Arizona League team for the Angels in the 2006 season. He batted .250,with an on-base percentage of .295. In 2007,he played for the Angels Pioneer League affiliate the Orem Owlz,batting .255 with 6 home runs in 50 games. De Los Santos split time the next season at the Angels AA affiliate,the Arkansas Travelers,and the single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels.
His performance in 2008 was significantly diminished,batting an average of .188 between the two teams. He played once more with the Kernels in 2009,as well as with the Dominican Winter League team Águilas Cibaeñas for two games. With the Kernels,he played more games than before,with 76,and improved in every statistical category from the last season. De Los Santos played his last professional season in 2010 with the Travelers,AZL Angels,and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. His performance fell to a .200 batting average with just one home run. [1]
From 2013 to 2015,De Los Santos served as the hitting coach for the Dominican Summer League Angels. On May 10,2016,Mike Scioscia added De Los Santos to his MLB coaching staff as bullpen catcher. [2] As of April 15,2020,he was no longer listed as a member of the Angels coaching staff. [3] Prior to the 2021 season,he was once more appointed a hitting coach for the DSL Angels,alongside Raywilly Gomez. [4]
Henry Ramón Blanco is a Venezuelan professional baseball coach and former player. He is currently the catching and strategy coach for the Washington Nationals. He played as a catcher in Major League Baseball from 1997 to 2013,appearing for the Los Angeles Dodgers,Colorado Rockies,Milwaukee Brewers,Atlanta Braves,Minnesota Twins,Chicago Cubs,San Diego Padres,New York Mets,Arizona Diamondbacks,Toronto Blue Jays,and Seattle Mariners. He later served as quality assurance coach for the Cubs. Although a light-hitting player,he was regarded as one of the best defensive catchers of his era.
John Rikard Dempsey is an American former professional baseball player. He played for 24 seasons as a catcher in Major League Baseball from 1969 to 1992,most prominently for the Baltimore Orioles where he played for 10 years and was a member of the 1983 World Series winning team. Dempsey was known for being one of the best defensive catchers of his era. In 1997,he was inducted into the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame.
Michael Lorri Scioscia,nicknamed "Sosh" and "El Jefe",is an American former Major League Baseball catcher and manager in Major League Baseball (MLB). He managed the Anaheim / Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim / Los Angeles Angels from the 2000 season through the 2018 season,and was the longest-tenured manager in Major League Baseball and second-longest-tenured coach/manager in the "Big Four",behind only Gregg Popovich at the time of his retirement. As a player,Scioscia made his major league debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1980. He was selected to two All-Star Games and won two World Series over the course of his 13-year MLB career,which was spent entirely with the Dodgers;this made him the only person in MLB history to spend his entire playing career with one team and entire managing career with another team with 10+ years in both places. He was signed by the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers late in his career,but never appeared in a major league game for either team due to injury.
