Angela Batinovich

Angela Batinovich is an American businesswoman, notable for being the youngest owner of a professional U.S. sports team. She is the creator of "Bat's Daughter", a line of women's clothing. Her father, Robert Batinovich, is a successful real estate investor and manager. She attended Notre Dame High School which is located in Belmont, California. She earned a degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angles. [1]

From 2005-2009, she was the majority shareholder and managing partner of the Portland LumberJax franchise of the National Lacrosse League. The LumberJax were successful on the floor, reaching the playoffs in three of the four seasons including a trip to the Championship game in 2008, but failed to draw sufficient crowds in Portland. The team folded after the 2009 season. [2]

Batinovich, at 24 years old, was the youngest owner in major professional sports. On May 8, 2006, she was named the NLL Executive of the Year. [3]

Personal life

On December 23, 2006, Batinovich announced her engagement to LumberJax player Adam Bysouth. [4] On July 28, 2007, the two were married in Hillsborough, CA. Among the people in attendance were Portland goaltender Dallas Eliuk and NLL Commissioner Jim Jennings. [5]

The Portland LumberJax were a professional lacrosse team in the National Lacrosse League (NLL), which started playing in the 2006 season and ended operations after the 2009 season. Angela Batinovich, the owner of the team, entered the league as the youngest owner of a professional sports franchise at the age of 24. Announced by the NLL on May 11, 2005, the LumberJax played their home games at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. It was announced on May 4, 2009 that the team would be leaving Portland after four seasons of play and on July 7, 2009 the NLL held a dispersal draft for the Lumberjax players.

Ryder Bateman was a professional lacrosse player. He played for the Portland LumberJax of the National Lacrosse League and the Victoria Shamrocks of the Western Lacrosse Association. In 2005 Bateman made his debut in the NLL, playing for the Minnesota Swarm. Bateman finished the season tied for second among rookies in goals (20), and third in scoring. He made te All Rookie team. In 2006, Bateman was traded to the Portland LumberJax roster mid season, where he helped the expansion franchise clinch the regular season Western Division Title. He played college lacrosse for the Whittier College Poets in Los Angeles.

Dan Dawson is a Canadian professional lacrosse player for the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League, Brampton Excelsiors (MSL) of Major Series Lacrosse, and is currently a free agent in Major League Lacrosse. Dawson ranks 2nd on the all-time NLL points list through of the 2022 season. He is a 7 time NLL All Pro selection. As a professional, he is a 7 time Mann Cup Canadian box lacrosse champion, and a 1 time Major League Lacrosse (field) champion (2009 Toronto Nationals. Representing Canada, Dawson has won two World Indoor Lacrosse Championship titles and was a finalist in the 2010 World Lacrosse Championship. Dawson has won two Champion's Cups as a member of the Rochester Knighthawks in 2013 and 2014.

Brodie Merrill is a Canadian professional lacrosse player. He currently plays in the National Lacrosse League for the San Diego Seals and Premier Lacrosse League for the Cannons. Merrill is recognized by the Premier Lacrosse League as having revolutionized the LSM position, and is the namesake for the Brodie Merrill LSM of the Year Award, being the only active PLL player to have an award named after them.

Dallas Eliuk is a former goaltender and assistant coach in the National Lacrosse League. Upon his retirement from play, Eliuk coached one season with the Portland LumberJax and two with the Colorado Mammoth. Dallas played for 18 years, 15 seasons for the Philadelphia Wings before being traded to the LumberJax, where he played for three seasons. Eliuk won four championships with the Wings, two championship MVP awards, was named to the All-Pro team nine times, and retired as the league's all-time leader in saves. Because of his success, his longevity, and unparalleled acrobatic athleticism, he is considered a legend in indoor lacrosse, and widely regarded as the best goalie to ever to play the game.

Derek Keenan is a former lacrosse player, and current head coach and general manager of the Saskatchewan Rush of the National Lacrosse League. Keenan has won the NLL GM of the Year award and the Les Bartley Award for Coach of the Year three times each; he won both awards in 2006, 2010, and 2014 though he shared the 2010 Bartley Award with Chris Hall.

Derek Malawsky is a Canadian lacrosse player for the Edmonton Rush in the National Lacrosse League. Derek's brother Curt also plays in the NLL, and the two have played together in Rochester, San Jose, and again in Arizona.
