Angela Sun (born October 19, 1979 [1] ) is an American journalist, television presenter, sportscaster, and documentary filmmaker.
Sun was born October 19, 1979, in Santa Clara County, California as Angela Ting Sun. She graduated from Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, California and later earned degrees in Sociology and Communications from the University of California at Los Angeles. Throughout high school and college, Sun competed in various pro-am surf events and was a team rider for Loaded Boards. She gained sponsorship recognition from major brands such as Roxy, Reef, Oakley, Billabong, Rip Curl, and Vans. Following her surfing career, she became an actress, film director, sports caster, investigative journalist, and avid adventure traveler.
Sun's action sports background led to hosting for EXTV, LG Action Sports Championships and ASP Surfing World Tour. In 2003, Sun was hired as a correspondent for Fox Sports Net's 54321. [2] She went on to report for FSN West's Dig! Volleyball Magazine show.
In 2008, Sun joined the luxury lifestyle news magazine First Look], airing nationally on NBC. In 2011, she was nominated for an Emmy award for her work on 1st Look. [3] In addition to LXTV, Sun hosted the show InnerView as well as MTV Iggy on the newly launched global channel of MTV networks.
In 2009, Sun became an anchor for The Court Report on the Tennis Channel. [4] Beginning in 2010, she hosted The Yahoo Sports Minute, [5] which she took over from former host Ashley Russell, and covered the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver for Yahoo! Sports. Sun joined co-hosts Matt Iseman and Olympic Gold medalist Jonny Moseley for the fourth season of American Ninja Warrior on G4TV and NBC in the summer of 2012. [6] [7] On July 18, 2014, Sun hosted The Yahoo Sports Minute for the final time. After that there was a final message for her, "Editor’s Note: 'The Yahoo Sports team would like to cordially thank Angela Sun for hosting the Yahoo Sports Minute for the last four and a half years. Thanks for helping make the Yahoo Sports Minute the #1 online sports show, Sunny Angela.'" She was the first Asian American female on-camera personality to appear on ESPN, Fox Sports, Tennis Channel, and Yahoo! Sports. [8]

Sun directed and produced her first feature-length documentary, Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, examining the plastic pollution in the oceans and its effects on the environment, marine life, and ultimately humans. [9] [10] [11] The Great Pacific garbage patch is a huge collection of trash trapped in a gyre in the Pacific Ocean.
Sun speaks English, Spanish, and some German and Mandarin. She has traveled to over 40 countries and studied abroad in Australia at the University of New South Wales.

A garbage patch is a gyre of marine debris particles caused by the effects of ocean currents and increasing plastic pollution by human populations. These human-caused collections of plastic and other debris, cause ecosystem and environmental problems that affect marine life, contaminate oceans with toxic chemicals, and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Once waterborne, marine debris becomes mobile. Flotsam can be blown by the wind, or follow the flow of ocean currents, often ending up in the middle of oceanic gyres where currents are weakest. Garbage patches grow because of widespread loss of plastic from human trash collection systems.

American Ninja Warrior is an American sports entertainment reality show based on the Japanese television reality show Sasuke which also serves as a successor of American Ninja Challenge. It features a set of obstacle courses in various cities, which contestants attempt to conquer. The obstacle courses are divided into Qualifiers courses, Semifinals courses, and a four-part Finals course which is based at Las Vegas Strip. The contestant who finishes all the courses in the fastest time wins a cash prize of $1,000,000. Starting with season 10, if one remaining contestant fails on any of Finals course parts, but has completed it more than the others in the fastest time, he wins a consolatory $100,000 prize. The Indian Ocean gyre, located in the Indian Ocean, is one of the five major oceanic gyres, large systems of rotating ocean currents, which together form the backbone of the global conveyor belt. The Indian Ocean gyre is composed of two major currents: the South Equatorial Current, and the West Australian Current.
The North Atlantic garbage patch is a garbage patch of man-made marine debris found floating within the North Atlantic Gyre, originally documented in 1972. A 22-year research study conducted by the Sea Education Association estimates the patch to be hundreds of kilometers across, with a density of more than 200,000 pieces of debris per square kilometer. The garbage originates from human-created waste traveling from rivers into the ocean and mainly consists of microplastics. The garbage patch is a large risk to wildlife through plastic consumption and entanglement. There have only been a few awareness and clean-up efforts for the North Atlantic garbage patch, such as The Garbage Patch State at UNESCO and The Ocean Cleanup, as most of the research and cleanup efforts have been focused on the Great Pacific garbage patch, a similar garbage patch in the north Pacific.
The Indian Ocean garbage patch, discovered in 2010, is a marine garbage patch, a gyre of marine litter, suspended in the upper water column of the central Indian Ocean, specifically the Indian Ocean Gyre, one of the five major oceanic gyres. The patch does not appear as a continuous debris field. As with other patches in each of the five oceanic gyres, the plastics in it break down to ever smaller particles, and to constituent polymers. As with the other patches, the field constitutes an elevated level of pelagic plastics, chemical sludge, and other debris; primarily particles that are invisible to the naked eye. The concentration of particle debris has been estimated to be approximately 10,000 particles per square kilometer.
