The 1948–49 season was Dinamo București's first season in Divizia A. In this season, Dinamo competed in Liga I, Cupa României and UEFA Europa League. The newly formed team played under the name Dinamo A. Coloman Braun-Bogdan, the former manager of Romania national team, is installed as coach. A group of players is brought, among which Angelo Niculescu, ex-player of FC Craiova and Carmen București, who was to end his career at the end of the season, and Titus Ozon.

The 2004–05 season was FC Dinamo București's 56th season in Liga I. For the 2004–05 season Dinamo's ambitions grew, but still many players left the club. Dinamo played a thrilling game vs. Manchester United in Bucharest in the third qualification round of the UEFA Champions League, but lost 1–2. This game was significant because it showed considerable progress from the last attempts to qualify for the group phase of the Champions League. The second leg was lost at Old Trafford 3–0. In the UEFA Cup 2004–05 season Dinamo was eliminated by Partizan Belgrade.

The 2003–04 season was FC Dinamo București's 55th season in Divizia A. After building up a team again in 2003–04, Dinamo eliminated Shakhtar Donetsk in the first round of the UEFA Cup 2003–04 season. They went on to lose to Spartak Moscow in the second round.

The 2002–03 season was FC Dinamo București's 54th season in Divizia A. In this season, Dinamo was affected again by the big number of players who left the team, which became a tradition for the bosses of the club to sell players after winning a title. Thus, Dinamo was again facing another reconstruction. They started the season badly, losing the two games in the UEFA Champions League qualifying phase, and leaving early the European competitions. Cornel Dinu was sacked after this two losses. In Divizia A Dinamo had hard times, changing a lot of managers and losing seven consecutive games. The team finished the season on the sixth position. A momentum of the season came in November, in the Romanian Cup, last 16, where Dinamo met the biggest rival Steaua. Dinamo won 3-0 the game played at the Cotroceni stadium. After Ioan Andone came to the team, Dinamo played a spectacular semifinal with Astra Ploieşti. They lost the first game, 2–1 in Ploieşti in the middle of the crisis, but then the team beat Astra in Bucharest 3-1 after extra time. They then went on to win the Romanian Cup, after beating FC Naţional in the final 1–0 on a goal scored by Iulian Tameş.
