Angus Thomas Lane OAM is an Australian ring announcer. [1] [2]

Lane has been the ring announcer at many major agricultural shows in Australia including the Royal Queensland Show (more commonly known as "The Ekka"), Sydney Royal Easter Show, Perth Royal Show, Royal Darwin Show and the Royal Toowoomba Show. [2] [3]

He has also served as a ring announcer at many smaller agricultural shows across Queensland, commencing his career at the Jandowae Show. [4]

After working as the ring announcer at Rockhampton's Beef Australia in 1991, Lane became the Chief Ring Announcer at The Ekka in 1992. [4] He served in that role until 2008 before stepping down from the position for a number of years before returning in 2014. [5]

Recognition

Lane was named as Queensland Father of the Year in 2002. [6]

In 2012, Lane was awarded the Friendship and Fellowship Award from the Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Society. [7]

Lane received the Minister's Recognition of Outstanding Contribution to Rural Communities for Services to rural and regional Queensland from Henry Palaszczuk. [6]

Lane was named in the 2013 Queen's Birthday Honours and awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in recognition of his services to agricultural shows. [8]

On Queensland Day in 2020, Lane was named as a Queensland Great for his services as an announcer and to agriculture. [3] [9]

Ekka

The Ekka is the annual agricultural show of Queensland, Australia. Its formal title is the Royal Queensland Show, and it is held at the Brisbane Showgrounds. It was originally called the Brisbane Exhibition, but it is more commonly known as the "Ekka", short for "exhibition". It is run by The Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA).

Cameron Robert Dick is an Australian politician and member of the Labor Party currently serving as the 51st Treasurer of Queensland. He previously served as Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning and was Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services in the Palaszczuk Ministry. He also served as Attorney-General, Minister for Education and Minister for Industrial Relations in the Bligh government. He is currently a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly representing the seat of Woodridge.

The RNA owns and operates the Brisbane Exhibition Ground, situated 1.6 kilometres from the Brisbane central business district.

2017 Queensland state election

The 2017 Queensland state election was held on 25 November 2017 to elect all 93 members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, the unicameral Parliament of Queensland.

The First Palaszczuk Ministry was a ministry of the Government of Queensland led by Annastacia Palaszczuk. Palaszczuk led the Labor Party to victory in the 2015 state election, forming a minority government with the support of independent MP Peter Wellington. Her interim ministry was sworn in on 14 February 2015 by Governor Paul de Jersey. The full Palaszczuk Ministry was sworn in two days later. Several changes were made to the ministry on 8 December 2015, with 3 cabinet positions and one assistant ministry added.

2020 Queensland state election

The 2020 Queensland state election was held on 31 October to elect all 93 members to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. The Labor Party was returned to government for a third-term, led by incumbent premier Annastacia Palaszczuk. With 47 seats needed to form a majority government, Labor won 52 seats, including all but five in Brisbane, while the Liberal National Party won 34 seats and formed opposition. On the crossbench, Katter's Australian Party retained its 3 seats, the Queensland Greens picked up South Brisbane for a total of 2, Pauline Hanson's One Nation retained Mirani and independent Sandy Bolton retained her seat of Noosa.

Gail Ker

Gail Kathleen Ker OAM was the chief executive officer of Access Community Services Ltd in Queensland, Australia until December 2021. In 2018, she was named as one of the Queensland Greats by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in a ceremony at the Queensland Art Gallery on 8 June 2018.
