Anil Parakrama Samarasekera is the current Serjeant-at-Arms of the Sri Lankan Parliament. [1]
Samarasekera was educated at Royal College,Colombo. He joined the Sri Lanka Navy as a Cadet Officer receiving his training at the Naval and Maritime Academy and was commissioned as an Acting Sub Lieutenant,undergoing special training in India. During his naval career,he served as a naval instructor at the Kotelawala Defence Academy and the Naval and Maritime Academy. He was also seconded to the Sri Lanka Shipping Corporation. He left the navy with the rank of Lieutenant.
After leaving the navy,Samarasekera joined the parliamentary service in 1996 as the Assistant Serjeant-at-Arms. Later he was promoted to the post of Deputy Serjeant-at-Arms and underwent training at the House of Commons in 2003. In 2006,he succeeded Wijaya Palliyaguruge as the 5th Serjeant-at-Arms of the Sri Lankan Parliament.
A serjeant-at-arms,or sergeant-at-arms,is an officer appointed by a deliberative body,usually a legislature,to keep order during its meetings. The word "serjeant" is derived from the Latin serviens,which means "servant". Historically,serjeants-at-arms were armed men retained by English lords and monarchs,and the ceremonial maces which they are associated with were originally a type of weapon.
The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) is the naval arm of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and is classed as the country's most vital defence force due to its island geography and is responsible for the maritime defence of the Sri Lankan nation and its interests. The role of the Sri Lanka Navy is to conduct operations at sea for the defence of the nation and its interests and conduct prompt and sustainable combat operations at sea in accordance with the national policies.

He has also served as the Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy,Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy,the Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and held,at various times,four of the seven Naval Commands of the SLN. Wijegunaratne has also served as Director Naval Operations,and is a recipient of the Weerodara Vibhushanaya.
Vice admiral Susith Maliya Bandara Weerasekara RSP,VSV,USP,ndu,psn,MSc. (DS) Mgmt,DISS,DIDSS was a commissioned officer of the Sri Lanka Navy. He was the highest ranked senior officer of the Sri Lanka Navy at the time he was overlooked for the position of Commander of the Navy,leading to his subsequent retirement. A committee appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena found that he was politically victimised by the previous government and he was promoted to the rank of vice admiral in October 2015.

Admiral Travis Jeremy Liyanduru Sinniah,WWV,RWP,RSP,USP,ndu,psc was a Sri Lankan admiral and the 21st Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy. He has served as the Commander of Sri Lanka's Eastern Naval Area and as Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Fleet. He was the second Tamil to be appointed the commander of the Sri Lankan Navy after Rajan Kadiragamar in the 1960s.
The Serjeant-at-Arms of the Sri Lankan Parliament is a parliamentary official responsible for order in the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
