Anna Batchelor is a British consultant physician, best known for her work in intensive care medical education. She was the first female Dean of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine between 2013 and 2016 and President of the Intensive Care Society from 2005 to 2007. [1] [2]

Biography

Batchelor studied medicine at the University of Sheffield and qualified as a doctor in 1980. [3] Training in intensive care medicine and anaesthesia followed in Sheffield, Leicester and Newcastle [3] and she has been a consultant since 1993. [2] Batchelor has led curriculum developments in intensive care medicine and anaesthesia. [4]

Batchelor is the current Chair of the Critical Care Leadership Forum [5] and has been a member of Council for the Royal College of Anaesthetists since 2008. [4]

BJA Education, formerly known as Continuing Education in Anaesthesia, Critical Care & Pain and BJA CEPD Reviews is a bimonthly peer-reviewed medical journal. Originally published by Oxford University Press, it is now published by Elsevier since 2018. It is a joint undertaking of the British Journal of Anaesthesia and the Royal College of Anaesthetists in collaboration with the Faculty of Pain Medicine, the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland, the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists and the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine. Dato' Dr. Sachithanandan Thambinathan, better known as T. Sachithanandan, was a Malaysian anaesthesiologist.

The Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine is the organisation involved with the training, assessment, practice and continuing professional development of Intensive care medicine consultants in the United Kingdom. The current Dean is Dr Danny Bryden. The Faculty is based at Churchill House, London.

The College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland is the professional association and educational institution responsible for the medical specialty of anaesthesiology throughout Ireland. It sets standards in anaesthesiology, critical care, and pain medicine, and for the training of anaesthesiologists, critical care physicians and pain medicine physicians. Ramani Moonesinghe OBE MD(Res) FRCP FRCA FFICM SFFMLM is Professor of Perioperative Medicine at University College London (UCL) and a Consultant in Anaesthetics and Critical Care Medicine at UCL Hospitals. Moonesinghe was Director of the National Institute for Academic Anaesthesia (NIAA) Health Services Research Centre between 2016 and 2022, and between 2016 and 2019 was Associate National Clinical Director for Elective Care for NHS England. In 2020 on she took on the role of National Clinical Director for Critical and Perioperative care at NHS England and NHS Improvement.

Gillian Coysh Hanson FRCP FRCA was a British physician who specialised in intensive care and the treatment of diabetes mellitus. She established and led the intensive care unit at Whipps Cross Hospital from 1968 to 1993.

Katharine Georgina Lloyd-Williams CBE was a British anaesthetist, general practitioner and medical educator. She was a consultant anaesthetist at the Royal Free Hospital from 1934 and dean of the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine from 1945, retiring from both posts in 1962.

Liam Brennan is a consultant anaesthetist, deputy medical director of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and chair of the Centre for Perioperative Care. He was formerly president of the Royal College of Anaesthetists from 2015 to 2018. He specialises in anaesthesia in children and those with difficult airways and in plastic surgery. Joseph Charles Stoddart MD, FRCA, FRCP was an English anaesthetist and intensive care specialist, who played a significant role in the development of intensive care in the UK. He spent most of his career at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he established one of the UK's earliest dedicated intensive care units in 1970. He was a founding member and early chair of the Intensive Care Society.

Mike Grocott is professor of anaesthesia and critical care medicine at the University of Southampton and director of the National Institute for Health and Care Research's (NIHR) Southampton Biomedical Research Centre (2022-27). He is an NIHR Senior Investigator (2018-26) and was national specialty group lead for Anaesthesia Perioperative Medicine and Pain within the NIHR Clinical Research Network (2015-2021). He is a consultant in critical care medicine at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
