Anna Hontar , born on 9 September 2003 in the city of Kherson in Ukraine, is a Ukrainian Paralympic swimmer who competes in the S6 classification. She has represented Ukraine at multiple Paralympic Games and World Para Swimming Championships, winning medals and setting a world record in freestyle events. [1]

After starting to swim at the age of 5, Anna Hontar made her debut for Ukraine at the 2018 European Championships in Dublin, Ireland, marking the beginning of her professional career. Under the guidance of her personal coach, Mykola Ilin, she has honed her skills and achieved remarkable milestones since 2015. [2]

Paralympic Games

Hontar made her Paralympic debut at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, winning the bronze medal in the women's 50 metre freestyle S6 event. [3] [4]

At the 2022 World Para Swimming Championships, Hontar won the gold medal in the women's 50 metre freestyle S6 and the silver medal in the 100 metre backstroke S6. [5]

At the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, she again won the bronze medal in the 50 metre freestyle S6. [6] This marked her third Paralympic medal, confirming her consistent performance at the highest level. [7] She also competed in the mixed 4×50 metre relay and the 100 metre breaststroke SB5 events, winning the bronze medal twice. [8]

World Para Swimming Championships

At the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships in Manchester, Hontar won gold in the women's 50 metre freestyle S6 and set a world record of 32.55 seconds, which means edging China‘s athlete Jiang Yuyan, who broke the Asian record in 32.90. [9] [10]

She also competed in the women's 100 metre backstroke S6, earning a silver medal.

Hontar has also earned medals at the World Para Swimming Championships in other events, consistently contributing to Ukraine's medal tally. [11]

European Para Swimming Championships

At the 2018 World Para Swimming European Championships in Dublin, Hontar won the silver medal in the women's 50 metre freestyle S7, finishing second behind Switzerland's Nora Meister and ahead of Sweden's Nicola St Clair Maitland. [12]

Other international competitions

Hontar has competed on the Para Swimming World Series circuit, winning medals in events such as the women's 50 metre butterfly and 100 metre breaststroke at the Limoges World Series meet. [13]

Honours and awards

Following her bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, Hontar was awarded the Order of Princess Olha (third class). [22] She has also been honored with the title of Master of Sport of International Class in Ukraine. [22]
