Anne Liardet (born April 16, 1961 in Bourges) [1] is a French female offshore professional sailor.
Her father is a teacher who moved to teach at Brest Graduate School of Arts when she was one year old. The family moved to Sainte-Anne-du-Portzic she was introduced to sailing by her father. After leaving school she started work for a sailmaker but within two years she moved into working in a boatyards preparation ocean racing boats. [1] Working in the world of offshore racing at a shipyard and then on various sailing yacht she already imagines herself aboard the boats she prepares. She is the mother of three children Morgan, Manon and Margot, [2] whom she had with partner and fellow offshore sailor Jo Le Guen where they live in Daoulas, Finistère.
She is the third woman to finish a Vendée Globe solo yacht race following Catherine Chabaud in 1997 and Ellen MacArthur in 2001. [3] She attempted to return to professional sailing to compete in the 2012-2013 Vendee Globe but failed to raise the funds. In 2021 she returned to offshore sailing mounting a Mini Transat campaign. Yacht racing is a sailing sport involving sailing yachts and larger sailboats, as distinguished from dinghy racing, which involves open boats. It is composed of multiple yachts, in direct competition, racing around a course marked by buoys or other fixed navigational devices or racing longer distances across open water from point-to-point. It can involve a series of races with buoy racing or multiple legs when point-to-point racing.
The Vendée Globe is a single-handed (solo) non-stop round the world yacht race. The race was founded by Philippe Jeantot in 1989, and since 1992 has taken place every four years. It is named after the Département of Vendée, in France, where the race starts and ends. The Vendée Globe is considered an extreme quest of individual endurance and the ultimate test in ocean racing.

In February 2009, Caffari completed the Vendée Globe race and set a new record to become the first woman to sail solo, non-stop, around the world in both directions.

Bernard Gallay is a Franco-Swiss yachtsman and businessman. He has competed in the Vendée Globe twice and finished his career as a professional sailor whilst participating in the Transat 6.50 in 2005. The 2020–2021 Vendée Globe was a non-stop round the world yacht race for IMOCA 60 class yachts crewed by only one person. It was the ninth edition of the race, which started and finished in Les Sables-d'Olonne, France. The race began on 8 November 2020, with the first finishers completing the course on 27 January 2021 with the 25th and final yacht to complete the race arrived on 5 March 2021.
