Annet Nandujja is a Ugandan traditional folk musician, composer and dancer. [1] [2] [3] She sings in Luganda [4] and performs with her group, The planets. [5]

Background

Nandujja was born in 1959, in Kanoni Village in Ggomba sub-county, Wakiso District. She grew up in Kibinge Village, Masaka District. [6] She formed the planets band with Kiyimba Musisi and Erasmus Ssebunya in the early 1990s. The group now has 45 members. [7] They perform traditional roots Folk music from Buganda. [8]

Awards and recognition

'The Planets' won the 2005 Pearl of Africa Music Awards for best cultural group in Uganda. [7] Nandujja won the first prize in the 2018 National Cultural Heritage Awards. She was recognised in the Intangible Cultural Heritage category for helping to preserve traditional Kiganda dances such as Bakisimba, Aamaggunju and Nankasa. [9] Her albums include "Etooke", "Obufumbo bwaleero", "Akalagaane Kukuuma Butonde" and "Tuulimukuzunga". [10] [11]

Jemimah Sanyu, also known as the Stage Gladiator, is a Ugandan musician, performer, producer, and voice coach. She has a commanding stage presence with a very strong voice. Sanyu has met people like President Yoweri Museveni while singing at the I am a Ugandan album premier. She has shared a stage with top African stars like Habib Koite, Navio, Joanita Kawalya of Afrigo Band, and Juliana Kanyomozi. and many other African stars.

Milege Afrojazz Band, commonly known as Milege, is a world music band from Uganda, made up of young talented musicians from Uganda whose enthusiasm is derived from the diverse cultural music traditions of the different tribes of Uganda into which they fuse contemporary elements to express the likeness of Uganda's people in a more current context. As of 2015 Milege's members are; guitarist Manana F. Birabi, vocalist Joanita Katushabe, lead vocalist Gloria Akugizibwe, bassist Paul Owembabazi and violinist Alison Nadunga as a seasoned member.

She is well known for her single Kaddugala from her debut album Ye'nze for which she won an award for Best Female Artist in African Inspirational Music at AFRIMA Awards in 2018.

Sheebah Karungi, professional also known as Queen Karma and Sheebah, is a Ugandan Musician, Dancer, Actress and Feminist activist. She debuted her acting career in Queen of Katwe as Shakira. After quitting Obsessions, a dance group she joined in 2006, she started making music and later rose to recognition upon the release of her hit single "Ice Cream". In 2014, she released her debut project Ice Cream, a five-track EP which did well commercially and led her to win back-to-back HiPipo Music Awards Best Female Artist in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. She also won the Artist of the Year award twice, in 2017, 2018, and 2019 at the HiPipo Music Awards.

Anita Annet Among is a Ugandan accountant, lawyer and politician who is the incumbent Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda (2022–2026). Annet Nyakecho also known as Okwenye Annet Nyakecho is a Ugandan politician, business woman, and woman Member of Parliament of Tororo North County, Tororo District. She is an Independent politician. She served as woman MP for Otuke District in the 9th parliament, and in the 10th parliament, she served as the MP for Tororo North. She is currently the Tororo woman member of parliament in the 11th Parliament of Uganda.
