Annette Kay Main ONZM (born 1951/1952) is a New Zealand local-body politician. She served as mayor of Whanganui from 2010 to 2016, and was the first woman to hold that office.
Main was born in Castlecliff in Whanganui and attended Castlecliff School and Whanganui High School. [1] She trained as a teacher, before becoming a parent. [2] She worked for New Zealand Post in their public relations department, for the Whanganui District Council as a tourism officer, and then ran a tourism business. [2]
In 1998 main was elected to the Manawatū-Whanganui Regional Council, where she served for 12 years. During that time she chaired the environment committee and served as deputy chair. [2]
In 2010 she was elected mayor of Whanganui, becoming the first woman to hold the position. [3] She was re-elected in 2013. As mayor, she supported the New Zealand Geographic board's decision to change the town's name to include an "h". [4] She did not stand for re-election in 2016, instead successfully pursuing a seat on the Whanganui District Health Board. [5]
Main was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to local government, in the 2017 New Year Honours. [6] [7] In 2018 she was appointed to the council of the Universal College of Learning. [8]
Whanganui, also spelled Wanganui, is a city in the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand. The city is located on the west coast of the North Island at the mouth of the Whanganui River, New Zealand's longest navigable waterway. Whanganui is the 19th most-populous urban area in New Zealand and the second-most-populous in Manawatū-Whanganui, with a population of 42,200 as of June 2020.

Dame Frances Helen Wilde is a New Zealand politician, and former Wellington Labour member of parliament, Minister of Tourism and Mayor of Wellington. She was the first woman to serve as Mayor of Wellington. She was chairperson of the Greater Wellington Regional Council from 2007 until 2015, and since 2019 she has chaired the board of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
The Whanganui Chronicle is New Zealand's oldest newspaper. Based in Whanganui, it celebrated 160 years of publishing in September 2016. The Wanganui Branch is a 5.00 km branch line railway in the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand's North Island. It links Wanganui with the Marton - New Plymouth Line (MNPL) at Aramoho and has been open since 21 January 1878, although solely for freight traffic since 7 September 1959. Another branch line diverged from the Wanganui Branch near its terminus, the Castlecliff Branch.
The Castlecliff Branch is a branch line railway 5.88 km long in the Manawatu-Whanganui region of New Zealand's North Island. It is an extension of the Wanganui Branch from Taupo Quay in central Whanganui and follows the Whanganui River to Castlecliff on the South Taranaki Bight of the Tasman Sea. From its opening on 31 October 1885 until 1 February 1956 when the NZR took over, it was owned by the Wanganui Heads Railway Company, later renamed the Castlecliff Railway Company. From 5 September 2006 services on the branch were suspended but the infrastructure remained in place. In 2011 KiwiRail resumed services on part of the line.
Philippa June Baker, now known by her married name Philippa Baker-Hogan, is a former New Zealand rower and politician. She was the first New Zealand woman to win a gold medal at World Rowing Championships and won gold at world championships on two more occasions. She has twice represented New Zealand at the Olympics. She has received numerous awards for her rowing success and in 2012, she and fellow double sculler Brenda Lawson were inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame. A trained radiographer, she manages her husband's medical practice. She has been a Whanganui District Health Board and Wanganui District Council member since 2004 and 2006, respectively, and was a mayoral candidate in 2010. She is a member of the New Zealand Labour Party.
Betty Bourke was a New Zealand local-body politician and health administrator. She was first elected to the Patea Hospital Board in 1962, and later served as the board's chair for three years, unsuccessfully leading the fight against amalgamation with neighbouring hospital boards. In 1969, she became the representative for Patea on the Wanganui Hospital Board, becoming chair in 1980. She was prominent in the establishment of the Wanganui Regional Hospice Service in 1981.
The Mayor of Rangitikei is the head of the Rangitikei District Council in New Zealand. The role was created in 1989 with the formation of the Rangitikei District as part of the 1989 local government reforms. The current mayor since 2013 is Andy Watson from Marton.

They were held as part of the 2010 New Zealand local elections. Postal ballots were issued to 10,068 registered voters, and were returned from 17 September to 9 October. Across the district, 3,619 people cast votes, a voter turnout of 47%.

These elections were for the offices of Mayor of Rangitikei, eleven members of the Rangitikei District Council, four members each of two community boards, two members of the Horizons Regional Council and seven members of the Whanganui District Health Board; these elections were part of the New Zealand-wide local elections. Postal ballots will be issued to all registered voters.
The 2016 Rangitikei mayoral election were part of the Rangitikei and wider New Zealand local elections. On 8 October 2016, elections were held for the Mayor of Rangitikei and other local government roles. Incumbent mayor Andy Watson was first elected in 2013 with 41.5% of the vote. Watson announced on 9 June he is running for a second term as mayor. Running against Watson are community patrol chair George London and civil engineer Robert Snijders, all three from Marton.
