Anoop Sathyan

Anoop Sathyan (born 26 September 1985) is an Indian film director and screenwriter who works primarily in the Malayalam film industry. He made his feature film directorial debut with Varane Avashyamund (2020). He is the son of filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad and the twin brother of director Akhil Sathyan. [1]

Early life and education

Anoop Sathyan was born on 26 September 1985 in Thrissur, Kerala, India. He is the son of filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad and Nimmi Sathyan. Before entering the film industry, he worked as a software engineer. He later pursued formal education in design and filmmaking, graduating from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and the National Institute of Design (NID), India. [2]

Career

Anoop Sathyan began his filmmaking career by directing short films, including Vaapsi (2010), A Dream Called America (2011), and I.C.U. (2016). These films helped establish his narrative style and thematic focus on interpersonal relationships. [3]

He made his feature film directorial debut with Varane Avashyamund (2020), which he also wrote. The film starred Suresh Gopi, Shobana, Dulquer Salmaan, and Kalyani Priyadarshan, and received positive critical and commercial response. [4]

Apart from directing, Anoop has also worked as a writer and associate director. He collaborated with Sathyan Anthikad on several projects and contributed as associate director and writer for the film Hridayapoorvam (2025). [5]
