Anthony Kasandwe (born 2 September 1969) is a Zambian politician. Kasandwe is a member of the ruling Patriotic Front. He has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of Zambia for Bangweulu since 2015, when he won a by-election.

Biography

Kasandwe was born on 2 September 1969. He holds an advanced diploma in business administration, a bachelor of arts in developmental studies and a diploma in philosophy and religious studies. [1]

Kasandwe is a member of the Patriotic Front. In 2015, President Edgar Lungu announced Kasandwe as the PF's by-election candidate for Bangweulu. The by-election was called after incumbent MP Chifita Matafwali died. Kasandwe won the seat on 6 August 2015 after receiving 9,516 votes versus 1,862 votes for his closest competitor. [2] He won a full term in the 2016 general election. [3]

The Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) is a political party in Zambia. Originally formed to oust the previous government, MMD controlled an absolute majority in parliament between 1991 and 2001, when its past leader, Frederick Chiluba was President of Zambia. Patriotic Front (Zambia) Political party in Zambia

The Patriotic Front (PF) is the ruling political party in Zambia. The party was formed by Michael Sata as a breakaway party of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy in 2001 after the President Frederick Chiluba nominated Levy Mwanawasa as its presidential candidate for 2001 elections. After several years, the PF gained power in the 2011 general elections.

2011 Zambian general election general election

General elections were held in Zambia on 20 September 2011, electing a President and members of the National Assembly. Michael Sata of the Patriotic Front (PF) won the presidential elections, defeating incumbent Rupiah Banda of the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD), and was sworn into office on 23 September. The PF emerged as the largest party in the National Assembly, winning 60 of the 148 seats decided on election day.

Chishimba Kambwili is a former member of the National Assembly of Zambia for Roan Constituency in Luanshya District. He has also held several posts in the cabinet. He is the leader of the National Democratic Congress (Zambia).

2016 Zambian general election

General elections were held in Zambia on 11 August 2016 to elect the President and National Assembly. A constitutional referendum was held alongside the elections, with proposals to amend the bill of rights and Article 79.

Edgar Lungu President of Zambia (2010-present)

Edgar Chagwa Lungu is a Zambian politician who has been the President of Zambia since 25 January 2015. Under President Michael Sata, Lungu served as Minister of Justice and Minister of Defence. Following Sata's death in October 2014, Lungu was adopted as the candidate of the ruling Patriotic Front in a Convention of the Patriotic Front in Kabwe, for the January 2015 presidential by-election, which was to determine who would serve out the remainder of Sata's term. In the election, he narrowly defeated opposition candidate Hakainde Hichilema and took office on 25 January 2015.

Patrick Matibini is a Zambian politician, lawyer and former judge. He has been Speaker of the National Assembly since 6 October 2011. Matibini was re-elected on 23 September 2016.

Chifita Matafwali was a Zambian politician. He was a member of the National Assembly for the Bangweulu constituency for the Patriotic Front since the 2011 elections.
