Den Helder is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Den Helder occupies the northernmost point of the North Holland peninsula. It is home to the country's main naval base. From here the Royal TESO ferryboat service operates the transportation link between Den Helder and the nearby Dutch Wadden island of Texel to the north.
Barendrecht is a town and municipality in the west of the Netherlands, near Rotterdam, South Holland. The municipality had a population of 48,643 in 2021, and covers an area of 21.73 km2 (8.39 sq mi) of which 1.98 km2 (0.76 sq mi) is water.
Alles Door Oefening Den Haag, commonly known by the abbreviated name ADO Den Haag, is a Dutch association football club from the city of The Hague. They play in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football, following relegation from the Eredivisie in the 2020–21 season. The club was for a time known as FC Den Haag, with ADO representing the amateur branch of the club. Despite being from one of the traditional three large Dutch cities, it has not been able to match Ajax, Feyenoord or PSV in terms of success in the Eredivisie or in European competition. There is nonetheless a big rivalry with Ajax and Feyenoord. The Dutch words "Alles Door Oefening" translate into Everything Through Practice.
Anton "Ton" Gerrit Jan Buunk is a retired Dutch water polo player. He competed in the 1972, 1976, 1980 and 1984 Olympics and won a bronze medal in 1976, placing sixth-seventh on other occasions. He was given the honour to carry the national flag of the Netherlands at the opening ceremony of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, becoming the 15th water polo player to be a flag bearer at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics. On 14 December 1979 he married Vera Renema.
Theodorus Anton "Dick" Nieuwenhuizen is a retired Dutch water polo player. He competed at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics and finished in sixth place at both Games. At the end of the 1990s he briefly coached the Dutch team.
Water polo has been part of the Summer Olympics program since the second games, in 1900. A women's water polo tournament was introduced for the 2000 Summer Olympics. Hungary has been the most successful country in men's tournament, while the United States is the only team to win multiple times at the women's tournament since its introduction. Italy is the first and only country to win both the men's and women's water polo tournaments.
Dénes Kemény is a former Hungarian water polo player who was the trainer and president of the Hungary men's national water polo team from 1997 to 2012. During his reign the Hungarian team won at least a medal in 24 of its 29 major tournaments, including three Olympic golds in a row between 2000 and 2008, making him one of the most successful water polo coaches in Olympic history.

The 2009–10 season was the first season under new coach Mario Been. The former Feyenoord striker was manager of NEC, and has been assistant-coach of Bert van Marwijk at Feyenoord in the past. Ivo Trumbić was a Croatian water polo player and Olympic medallist. He later went on to manage. Ivo Trumbić coached the Netherlands to a bronze medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics, becoming one of the few sportspeople who won Olympic medals in water polo as players and head coaches.
The Dutch Women's Water Polo Championship is the premier championship for women's water polo clubs in the Netherlands. First held in 1920, it is currently contested by twelve teams. As of 2012 it is granted one spot in the Champions' Cup and two in the LEN Trophy.

Jack B. van den Berg is a Dutch football manager and a former player. While coaching ASWH, he won the 2005 national amateur championship and the 2006 Rinus Michels Award for managers in nonprofessional leagues. During a long stint at BVV Barendrecht Van den Berg became a full-time coach. In 2015–2016 he coached the first squads of two small town rivals, promoting both ASWH to the Saturday Derde Divisie and IFC to the Sunday Hoofdklasse. From February until October 2018 he coached VV Katwijk, winning a Tweede Divisie championship.
The 2008–09 season was Feyenoord, in Dutch Eredivisie. the first season under new coach Gertjan Verbeek. On 14 January 2009, the bigger part of the players group declared they did not have any confidence in Gertjan Verbeek. Although the board and the supporters completely backed up Verbeek, the choice was made to sack the trainer because of financial considerations. The rest of the season Leon Vlemmings, who was Verbeek's assistant from the start of the season, was the manager.

The 2019–20 season was PEC Zwolle's 10th season of play in the Eredivisie and also its 10th consecutive season in the top flight of Dutch football for women. When COVID-19 spread around the Netherlands all upcoming footballmatches were postponed. On the 22nd of April the KNVB ended all amateur and women footballcompetitions for the 2019–20 season. The team finished seventh in the table.
