Apollon Shinkuba is a retired politician from Abkhazia and the current Chairman of the Council of Elders of Abkhazia.
Apollon Shinkuba was born on 7 April 1946 in the village of Tkhin,Ochamchira District. He graduated from the philological faculty of the Sukhumi Pedagogical Institute in 1975. Between 1994 and 1997,Shinkuba served as deputy Chief of Staff of the Abkhazian Military. Between 2000 and 2001,he was Chairman of the State Committee for Repatriation. Shinkuba retired from the army in 2007 with the rank of Colonel. [1]
Shinkuba was unanimously elected Chairman of the Council of Elders on 15 July 2016,following the death in March of his predecessor Konstantin Ozgan. [1]

Sergei Shamba is a senior politician from Abkhazia. He is currently a member of the People's Assembly of Abkhazia and Chairman of United Abkhazia. He was Prime Minister of Abkhazia under President Sergei Bagapsh from 13 February 2010 until 27 September 2011. Between 1997 and 2010 he had been Minister for Foreign Affairs under both Bagapsh and his predecessor Vladislav Ardzinba,with only a half-year interruption in 2004. Shamba has twice unsuccessfully participated in presidential elections,in 2004 and 2011. He has been a staunch proponent for dialogue between Abkhazia and Georgia.

Politics in Abkhazia is dominated by its conflict with Georgia. Taif Ajba was an Abkhaz language poet from Abkhazia. Ajba was born on 11 March 1939 in the village of Achandara,Gudauta District. Ajba was last seen on 9 October 1992 in Sukhumi,less than two months after the entrance of the Georgian military at the start of the 1992–1993 war,as he and three others were driven off in a bus by Georgian guards into an unknown direction. According to unconfirmed reports,Ajba was tortured and shot dead.
