Over the past 30 years, it became one of the leading production companies in the Arab world, [1] Arab Telemedia Group produced more than 5000 hours of drama programming, mostly aired on major TV broadcasters across the region achieving top viewership ratings. [2] [3]

In the year 2000, Talal Al Awamleh became the CEO for Arab Telemedia, accomplishing a great growth successes in the years after, [4] [5] [6] crowned with an Emmy award in 2008 for its socio-political series Al Ijteyah "The Invasion" as best international telenovela.

Omar or Omar Farouk is a historical Arab television drama miniseries-serial that was produced and broadcast by MBC1 and directed by the Syrian director Hatem Ali. Co-produced by Qatar TV, the series is based on the life of Omar ibn Al-Khattab, the second Caliph of Islam, and depicts his life from 18 years old until the moments of his death. The series had to face large controversy due to its depiction of Omar, Abu Bakr, Uthman and Ali, the four Rashidun Caliphs, along with other characters, who some Muslims believe should not be depicted, much like Mohammad.
