Angus is one of the 32 local government council areas of Scotland, a registration county and a lieutenancy area. The council area borders Aberdeenshire, Dundee City and Perth and Kinross. Main industries include agriculture and fishing. Global pharmaceuticals company GSK has a significant presence in Montrose in the north of the county.
Angus is a county constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post voting system. It is currently represented by Dave Doogan of the Scottish National Party who has been the MP since 2019.
Angus South is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood) covering part of the council area of Angus. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. In addition, it is one of ten constituencies in the North East Scotland electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to the ten constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole.
Linlithgow is one of the nine wards used to elect members of the West Lothian Council. It elects four Councillors. In 2019, the population of the ward was 16,499.

Rutherglen Central and North is one of the twenty wards used to elect members of the South Lanarkshire Council. Created in 2007, it elects three councillors under the Single Transferable Vote system.
Elections to North Ayrshire Council took place on 5 May 2022 on the same day as the 31 other Scottish local government elections. The election was the first to use the nine wards created under the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018, with 33 councillors being elected. Each ward – except Arran which returned one member – elected either three, four or five members, using the STV electoral system.
The 2022 Angus Council election took place on 5 May 2022, the same day as the 31 other Scottish local government elections. Each ward elected three or four councillors using the single transferable vote system, a form of proportional representation used since the 2007 election and according to the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004.
Elections to South Ayrshire Council took place on 5 May 2022 on the same day as the 31 other Scottish local government elections. The election used the eight wards created following the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland's fifth review, with 28 councillors elected. Each ward elected either three or four members, using the STV electoral system.
Elections to Argyll and Bute Council took place on 5 May 2022 on the same day as the 31 other Scottish local government elections. The election will use the 11 wards created under the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, with 36 councillors being elected. Each ward elected either 3 or 4 members, using the STV electoral system.
Irvine West is one of the nine wards used to elect members of the North Ayrshire council. It was originally created in 2007 and returned four councillors, covering western parts of Irvine, i.e everything west of the A78 road, plus the south-eastern industrial area around Drybridge and Shewalton. A national boundary review prior to the 2017 local elections led to a new ward, Irvine South being created, the West ward losing some territory west of the River Irvine / south of the Annick Water, but still keeping four seats. A further re-organisation for the 2022 election in relation to the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018 did not affect the Irvine wards. In 2020, the population was 15,040.
