The Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) is a corporate body for professionals in the built and natural environments in Kenya. [1] It draws its membership from eight major disciplines:
[2] Landscape architecture is a new practice in Kenya, first inaugurated in Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. It deals with design of open spaces ranging from residential to public space. It entails design of plazas (foyers, street plazas, mixed and pedestrian malls), squares, parks (neighbourhood, mini, public parks), golf courses, town aesthetics.
Licensed under the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, AAK Co-operative Sacco Ltd (The Architectural Association of Kenya Co-operative Savings and Credit Society Limited) (also dubbed The Built Environment Sacco) is the premier Sacco serving professionals in the built environment industry. They include architects, quantity surveyors, engineers, town planners, environmental design consultants, landscape architects, and construction project managers. Membership to the Sacco is also open to immediate family members of the said professionals and staff of firm members of AAK and affiliated associations. The Sacco undertakes Back Office Savings Activity (BOSA) activities for its members. [3]
An architect is a person who plans, designs and oversees the construction of buildings. To practice architecture means to provide services in connection with the design of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings that have human occupancy or use as their principal purpose. Etymologically, the term architect derives from the Latin architectus, which derives from the Greek, i.e., chief builder.

The practice of landscape architecture includes: site analysis, site inventory, site planning, land planning, planting design, grading, storm water management, sustainable design, construction specification, and ensuring that all plans meet the current building codes and local and federal ordinances.

Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED) IIUM/UIAM is the architecture or 'built environment' faculty of International Islamic University Malaysia. Roger Kirk Hayes Johnson was an architect, planner, potter, painter, sculptor, writer and educator. He graduated in Architecture with Honours from the University of Liverpool in July 1949, following an interruption in his studies caused by the Second World War. Post war he practised architecture and teaching in Kenya, South Africa, Burma, England and finally Australia where he emigrated with his family in 1960. Among his contributions to Australian architecture and architectural education were the innovative plans for Griffith University Nathan campus in Brisbane Queensland, setting the university in a natural setting with minimum disruption to the bushland.
