Ares Aerospacial e Defensa is a Brazilian arms company which has operated since 2010 as a subsidiary company of the Israeli defense company Elbit Systems Ltd.

Ares' website states that it "concentrates its activities in the planning, design, development, manufacture, integration, maintenance and commercialization of products in three main lines of business: Stations of Arms, Naval Systems, Optical and Electro-Optical." [1]

In 2017, Ares Aeroespacial e Defesa signed a $100 million contract to supply the Brazilian Armed Forces with remote-controlled weapon systems (RCWS). [2] According to Defense Update, "The RCWS, named REMAX, will be supplied over a five-year period" and "will be used in armored vehicles and logistics vehicles utilized in combat for troop transport, border patrol and peace keeping missions." [3]

Bezhalel Machlis, the president and CEO of Elbit Systems, said: "Brazil is a very important market for Elbit Systems and we are pleased to be awarded a follow-on contract for the supply of Remax to the Brazilian Army." [4]

In 2018, Ares installed an Atena electro-optical infrared surveillance system to the Niterói-class Brazilian Navy frigate Defensora. [5] Naval.com.br noted that the work "could lead to the installation of the system in the other frigates Niterói (F40), Constitution (F42), Liberal (F43), Independence (F44) and Union (F45)." [6]

Remote controlled weapon station

A remote controlled weapon station (RCWS), or remote weapon station (RWS), also known as a remote weapon system, (RWS) is a remotely operated weaponized system often equipped with fire-control system for light and medium-caliber weapons which can be installed on ground combat vehicle or sea- and air-based combat platforms. Such equipment is used on modern military vehicles, as it allows a gunner to remain in the relative protection of the vehicle. It may also be retrofitted onto existing vehicles, for example, the CROWS system is being fitted to American Humvees and the Thales SWARM for Bushmaster IMVs of the Royal Netherlands Army.

The Elbit Hermes 450 is an Israeli medium-sized multi-payload unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) designed for tactical long endurance missions. The VBTP-MR Guarani is a 6×6 armoured personnel carrier developed by Iveco and the Brazilian Army as part of its "URUTU-III" modernization program aimed to replace all EE-11 Urutu by 2015. The 8x8 version of the VBTP-MR is the base of Iveco's Superav armoured personnel carrier. REMAX – is a Brazilian remote weapon system produced by CTEx and Ares Aeroespacial e Defesa S.A. It's a flexible system able to receive many configurations, like 7.62×51mm NATO, 12.7 mm and 30mm MK44 Bushmaster II. The system gives soldiers 360° capacity and is equipped with night vision, thermal vision, high resolution camera and zoom. The project is in advanced stage. From now on, only minor modifications will be made in order to reduce the weight of the system, thus improving their performance.

The Del Pilar-class offshore patrol vessels currently in service with the Philippine Navy are three ships formerly belonging to the US Coast Guard's Hamilton-class high endurance cutters.
