Arindam Banik (born 1958) currently holds the position of Associated Cement Companies Chair Professor in International Business and Finance at IMI. [1] [2] [3] He is the Editor of the journal Global Business Review (SAGE Publications). [4] He has a Ph.D in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. He is the Former Director of International Management Institute (IMI) Kolkata.

Arindam Banik has authored a number of books [5] and published numerous articles in journals of eminence across the world. He has also presented papers at national and international conferences. [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] His area of interest includes all domains of economics viz. development economics, business economics, managerial economics and the like. He has been an active member of many professional societies such as the Asia Pacific Economic Association (APEA), [11] Bengal Economic Association, [12] Indian Economic Association and Euro-Asia Management Studies Association.

Education

Arindam Banik completed his B.Sc (1981) and M.Sc (1983) in Economics from Jahangirnagar University , Dhaka. Commencing a career as a Junior Executive at American Express Bank, Dhaka in 1982, [13] he gradually developed an inclination towards academics and decided to pursue higher studies. In 1993, he was awarded Ph.D from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi . In pursuit of his interest in the field of economics, he worked towards expanding his research experience.

Teaching

Arindam Banik has been with IMI for more than two decades. He is an Affiliated Professor at Centrum Graduate Business School, Ponficia UNIVERSIDAD CATO`LICA DEL PERU. [14] He has also been a lecturer in Economics at the University of West Indies, Cavehill Campus, Barbados. [15]

Professor Banik's research areas of interest include International Trade and Services, Global Financial Imbalance, Structure and Organisation of Financial Markets and Payment Systems, Technology Transfer and Strategic Analysis of Markets and Economics, Corporate Governance, Financial Sector Reforms and Economic Growth, International Finance and many more.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Rajendra K. Pachauri</span> Indian academic (1940–2020)

Rajendra Kumar Pachauri was the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) from 2002 to 2015, during the fourth and fifth assessment cycles. Under his leadership the IPCC was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 and delivered the Fifth Assessment Report, the scientific foundation of the Paris Agreement. He held the post from 2002 until his resignation in February 2015 after facing multiple allegations of sexual harassment. In March 2022, he was exonerated of the sexual harassment allegations. He was succeeded by Hoesung Lee. Pachauri assumed his responsibilities as the Chief Executive of The Energy and Resources Institute in 1981 and led the institute for more than three decades and demitted office as Executive Vice Chairman of TERI in 2016. Pachauri, universally known as Patchy, was an internationally recognized voice on environmental and policy issues, and his leadership of the IPCC contributed to the issue of human-caused climate change becoming recognized as a matter of vital global concern.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Indian Institute of Planning and Management</span> Former business school headquartered in New Delhi, India

The Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) was an unaccredited institute headquartered in New Delhi, which previously had 18 branches across India. IIPM was shut down after multiple allegations and lawsuits concerning the institute's use of false advertisements and fraudulent practices. After several controversies, the school's Honorary Dean Arindam Chaudhuri decided to shut down all campuses across India, except the one in Delhi. Founded in 1973, the institute used to offer undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in national economic planning and entrepreneurship, and international and fellowship programmes. Its executive education programmes include non-credit courses and visits to foreign business schools. IIPM is not accredited by UGC or All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and is not affiliated with the public Indian Institutes of Management.

Delhi School of Economics (DSE), popularly referred to as D School, is an institution of higher learning within the University of Delhi. The Delhi School of Economics is situated in University of Delhi's North Campus in Maurice Nagar. Established in 1949, the campus of the Delhi School of Economics houses the University of Delhi's departments of Economics, Sociology, Geography and Commerce, as well as the Ratan Tata Library. Out of the four academic departments, the Departments of Economics, Sociology and Geography come under the Faculty of Social Sciences, while the Department of Commerce comes under the Faculty of Commerce and Business Studies.

Arindam Chaudhuri is an Indian national best known for his involvement with the now-defunct Indian Institute of Planning and Management, an unaccredited institute that was previously headquartered in New Delhi and had 18 branches across India. The institute has been widely criticized for false advertisements and fraudulent practices. On 23 August 2020, Chaudhuri was arrested for tax evasion of 230 million (US$2.8 million).

<span class="mw-page-title-main">P. K. Banerjee</span> Indian footballer and coach (1936–2020)

Pradip Kumar BanerjeeFIFAOM was an Indian professional footballer who played as a striker for the India national football team. He also captained the national team and later on became the coach of the national team. He represented India in 52 official matches and scored 16 official goals for the country. He was one of the first recipients of Arjuna Award, when the awards were instituted in 1961. He was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in 1990 and was named Indian Footballer of the 20th century by IFFHS. In 2004, he was awarded the FIFA Order of Merit, the highest honour awarded by FIFA.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Isher Judge Ahluwalia</span> Indian economist (1945-2020)

Isher Judge Ahluwalia was an Indian economist, public policy researcher, and professor. She was Chairperson Emeritus, Board of Governors, at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER). She had also served as the chairperson of the board of the International Food Policy Research Institute, and the chairperson of the Government of India's High-Powered Committee on Urban Infrastructure Services. She was awarded India's 3rd highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan, in 2009.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Economy of Gujarat</span>

The economy of Gujarat, a state in Western India, is the most industrialised in India, having the highest industrial output of any state in the union. It has the highest exports of any Indian state, accounting for 33% of all Indian exports in 2022-23. It leads in diverse industrial sectors such as chemicals, petrochemicals, dairy, drugs and pharmaceuticals, cement and ceramics, gems and jewellery, textiles and engineering. Bakul Harshadrai Dholakia is the former Director of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (2002–2007). Nand Kishore Singh is an Indian politician, economist and former Indian Administrative Service officer. International Management Institute (IMI) Kolkata is a private business school located in Kolkata, India. It was founded in 2010. The first group of students at IMI Kolkata graduated in the year 2013. Campus placements at IMI Kolkata increased in the year 2014. Tajpur Port is a proposed greenfield deep-sea port in Tajpur, East Midnapore district, West Bengal. The port will be built on the coast of Bay of Bengal near Tajpur. The construction of the port was awarded to the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited in September, 2022. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee handed over Letter of Intent (LoI) to build the port to Karan Adani, son of Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, at the "Bijaya Sammelani" organized on October 12, 2022 at Eco Park, New Town, Kolkata. After the construction of the port, it will be the first deep-sea port in West Bengal. It is estimated that the port will be constructed at a cost of ₹25,000 crores.
