Arise: The Sri Lankan Metal Music Documentary is a 2010 feature film documentary about Sri Lankan metal music. The film was directed and produced by Naveen Marasinghe and Dinesh Guneratne.

The film features four bands which play different styles within the metal music genre: Funeral in Heaven (Black Metal), Fallen Grace (Melodic Death), Merlock (Thrash Progressive) and Cannabis (Sludge Metal). [1] [2] [3] The filmmakers show the bands in performance, interview the groups about the music scene and their experiences in it. The film was shot on DV using borrowed equipment in clubs around Colombo and Kandy, Sri Lanka over a period of two years. [4]

The documentary was screened by Mathawaada Chithrapata on 15 May 2010, at the Alliance Française de Colombo. [5] As of August 2010, the film has not been widely released to reviewers [6] or the Internet - the filmmakers have stated that DVDs will be distributed at concerts presented by the bands. [4]

The expulsion of non-resident Tamils from Colombo was an incident which took place on June 7, 2007 when 376 ethnic Tamil refugees living in Colombo were deported from the city by the Sri Lankan Police. The evicted were sent back to Jaffna, Vavuniya, Trincomalee and Batticaloa, where they are originally from, in several buses with a police escort. However the buses only went as far as the town of Vavuniya and the evicted Tamils were forced to stay in a detention camp. The President asked those who were evicted to come back to Colombo and ordered an investigation into the incident
