Arjun Balu (18 January 1975) is an Indian motorsports driver. After starting as a road racing driver in 1992, he took part in the Indian National Rally Championship for 17 years. He won 11 Championships, all in road racing and is currently racing in the Indian Touring Car (ITC) class in the MRF MMSC fmsci Indian National Car Racing Championship 2023. He is the reigning National champion in the ITC class (2022).
Four of Arjun Balu's title victories were won before the championship got the Indian National status. He won events in both rallying and road racing.
Born in Coimbatore, Arjun Balu began his motorsports career as a teenager in 1992 [1] with JK Tyre and shifted to rallying in 1995 as a team member of MRF, one of the premier rally teams in the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC). He represented the team for 17 years till he retired from Rallying in 2011 at the Coffee Day rally at Chikmagalur. [2]
Arjun Balu began as a racing driver 1992 [3] in the Indian Grand Prix at Irungattukottai track. He raced for JK Tyre team along with his brother Sanjay Balu in 1993. [4] After making his rally debut in the INRC in 1994 at the home rally, he was roped in by MRF as one of their top two drivers in 1995. Despite many victories, the National Rally Championship title eluded him and he retired from rallying after 17 years in 2011. [5] But he made a comeback for road racing Nationals, taking part in touring car races at Coimbatore in 2012 [6] and continued in 2013. [7] Arjun Balu's three-decade [8] long career saw him win five titles in FISSME (Formula India Single Seater Maruti Engine) races, popularly known as Formula Maruti India. Then he won Formula Ford 1600cc and along with one Esteem class National title and four ITC titles, he is credited with 11 Indian National Championship victories. [9]
After a gap of five years, Race Concepts Motorsports team principal Joel Joseph offered to prepare a car for Balu, if he is willing to make another comeback. Balu returned to circuit racing in 2018. [10] [11] In his third attempt after the comeback, he won the ITC National title in 2020 [12] and went on to add two more Championship victories in 2021 [13] and 2022. [14] [1]
He took part in the MRF Formula 1600 in 2010 and 2011 [15] and became the National Champion in the Indian Touring Car championship in 2012. Then after a five-year hiatus, Arjun Balu came back to circuit racing in 2018 taking part in the Nationals as part of Race Concepts Motorsports team.
As a rally driver, Arjun Balu won in 1999 the famous South India Rally (SIR), [16] the third round of INRC, along with co-driver Kumar Ramaswamy in an Esteem and took another victory at Hyderabad in December winning the Deccan Rally, the last round of the INRC 1999. [17] He won in Goa in 2003 [18] and came second in the MRF Taj Challenge Rally at the then Calcutta in June 2003. [19] [20] In 2009, he won the popular K1000 rally along with Sujith Kumar BS as navigator and took Indian cricket player Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who attended the rally as a Chief Guest, on a spin on the Super Special Stage track before receiving the trophy from the cricketer. Arjun Balu remained as the driver for the second team of MRF which deprived him of many results. [23] His first international rally victory came in 2001 in Changchun, China where he won the Asia Zone Rally Championship (AZRC), the precursor to the Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC).
Balu has also volunteered to mentor women athletes to promote FIA Women in Motorsports concept. [24]

The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, abbreviated as FMSCI, is the governing body for motor sports in India and was founded in 1971. It is a long-standing member of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the world bodies for 2/3 and 4 wheeler motor sport respectively.

The 2023 National Championship begins in Chennai from March 17 to 19 with the South India Rally (SIR) which also the first round of the APRC Asia Cup.
The JK Tyre National Racing Championship also known as JK-NRC is an auto racing championship series consisting of several one-make series events of open wheel single seater formula cars and saloon cars in India. This championship series is also considered to be the stepping stone for Indian Racing drivers who want to break into international motorsports. Several drivers have gone on to take part in international events including Formula One and A1 Grand Prix and other premier racing series around the world.
The Madras International Circuit is a permanent motor racing circuit located in Irungattukottai, Chennai, India. It was built in the late 1980s and was inaugurated in 1990. It was the first permanent racing circuit in India and is owned by the Madras Motor Sports Club. In July 2022, the track was renamed as Madras International Circuit.

Karna Kadur is an Indian National Rally Champion. He began with road racing and also achieved immense success in Indian rallying with seven National rally titles in different classes. He won two Overall National Rally Championship victories 2016 and 2022 with Arka Motorsports. He is with Arka Motorsports and drives in MRF Tyres colours under the mentorship of N Leelakrishnan, his engineer and tuner. He is also the first driver to get a National Championship title for Volkswagen Polo along with co-driver Nikhil Pai.
Chetan Korada is an Indian racing driver who holds the distinction of being the first ever driver in the world to win a race using synthetic feet. He is also the first in Asia, and second in the world after former Formula One driver Alex Zanardi, to compete in motorsport using a prosthetic leg. Having been born with a deformity during birth, he had undergone bi-lateral amputation at a very tender age under medical advice.
Aishwarya Pissay is an Indian circuit and off-road motorcycle racer. She has become the first-ever Indian motorsports athlete to win a world title. The TVS talent participated at the FIM Bajas World Cup and secured the 1st place in the women's category and 2nd in the junior's category. She is the first Indian woman to win 7 FMSCI National titles, including 6 consecutive Indian National Rally Championship in two-wheelers from 2017. She started with Circuit Racing winning Honda one-make and TVS one-make titles and went on to win multiple Indian National Rally Championship titles before moving to bigger cross-country rallies.
Vicky Bharat Chandhok is an Indian racing driver and motorsport administrator. From 2003 to 2005 and from 2010 to 2013, he served as president of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). He helped bring the Indian Grand Prix Formula 1 races to India during his second term as president of the Indian federation. As a representative of the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone, he also oversaw the construction of the F1 track at Buddh International Circuit. He also served as a consultant for Jaypee Sports International (JPSI), the company that built and owned the Formula One track. He currently serves on the FIA Truck Racing Commission and the FMSCI Council. Additionally, he has won multiple Indian rallying titles. Karun Chandhok, India's second F1 driver, is his son and his father Indu Chandhok, is the founding member of the FMSCI and the Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC).
The 2022–23 MRF Formula 2000 season was the eighth running of a Formula 2000-level single-seater championship in India. Previously known as the MRF Challenge, it was last held up until early 2020, before being cancelled for two seasons because of the COVID-19 pandemic. For the 2022–23 season, it was restarted without support of the FIA and simply called MRF Formula 2000, with the field consisting of domestic drivers rather than foreign racers competing over the European and Northern American off-season.
Nikhil Vittal Pai is an Indian rally co-driver who won the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) for four-wheelers twice in 2016 and 2022. He is one of the most-experienced co-drivers currently taking part in INRC for four-wheelers from 1992.
Akbar Ebrahim is an accomplished Indian motorsports driver. He is the first Indian to take part in an international race when he participated in the Formula 2 Britain. He is currently the President of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India from September 2020. Ebrahim is also the head oif the international Karting Commission, the CIK of FIA.
Copparam Shreyas Hareesh was an Indian racing rider. He won the inaugural MiniGP India series in September 2022. Shreyas made his National debut in 2021 and got a podium and a victory in his very first year. At the Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit 2023 in Lucknow, he was felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 10 February 2023.
CEAT Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) is an Indian motorcycle racing league. Unlike other leagues which are city-based, it is a franchise-based supercross league organised by Team SX1 in collaboration with the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). CEAT is the main sponsor of ISRL while Toyota Hilux is the official vehicle partner.

Chandra Kumar Chinnappa born in Bangalore is an Indian motorsports athlete and administrator. He is a racing driver and a rally co-driver. Chinnappa took part in Indian National bike races in various disciplines like rallies, autocross, motocross, hill climb and drag meets, and in later years he became a regular four-wheeler rally co-driver in the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) for an overall career spanning 34 active years as a competitor. Now he continues as a senior steward of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).
