The Arlanza River rises in the Sierra de la Demanda, near Quintanar de la Sierra in an area known as Fuente Sanza. As it flows through the province of Burgos, Spain, it passes through the municipalities of Castrovido, Salas de los Infantes, Covarrubias and Lerma, broadly east to west roughly parallel to and north of the River Duero.
Its main tributary is the River Arlanzón that joins near Quintana del Puente shortly before the Arlanza itself joins River Pisuerga which in turn joins the Duero.
It gives its name to the Arlanza wine region, a Spanish Denominación de Origen.

The border is formed by the Rio Macãs it heads east crossing the Esla river to Zamora and the Duero river valley. The N-630 crosses to the north and south.
The Ribera del Duero is a comarca or district located at the southern tip of the province of Burgos, part of the Spanish autonomous community of Castile and León. The capital of the Ribera del Duero comarca or district is the town of Aranda de Duero.
The Esla is a river in the provinces of León and Zamora in the northwest of Spain. It is a tributary of the Duero River that starts in the Cantabrian Mountains and is 275 kilometres (171 mi) long. Its direction of flow is from north to south. San Pedro de Arlanza is a ruined Benedictine monastery in north central Spain. It is located in the valley of the river Arlanza in Hortigüela, Burgos. Founded in 912, it has been called the "cradle of Castile". It was abandoned in 1841 during the confiscations of Juan Álvarez Mendizábal's government, when ecclesiastical properties were roundly redistributed.
Gonzalo Téllez was a nobleman who was Count of Lantarón and Cerezo and is also mentioned in a document dated 903 as Count of Castile. He and his wife were the founders of the Monastery of San Pedro de Arlanza.
