Arne Birkenstock (born 1967) is a German film director and screenwriter.

Biography

Birkenstock was born in Huettental and was raised in Cologne. He studied economy, political science, history of Latin America and romance languages in Cologne, Buenos Aires and Córdoba, and received a master's degree in Latin American Studies.[ citation needed ]

Birkenstock published several studies and non-fiction books on Latin American music and on arts and media policy for German publishing houses and governmental institutions. He has written, directed and produced several feature-length documentary films. [1] In 2011 und 2014, he was awarded with the German Film Academy Award LOLA. His documentary feature "Beltracchi – The Art of Forgery" had its US theatrical release in August 2015 at Film Forum in New York City and Laemmle Theatres in Los Angeles, distributed by Kimstim. As a producer, Birkenstock works with directors like David Bernet (Democracy), Viviane Blumenschein (Midsummer Nights Tango), Uli Gaulke (Comrades in Dream), Florian Opitz (The Big Sellout) Enrique Sánchez Lansch (Rhythm Is It!), Tonje Hessen Schei (Drone), Milo Rau (The Congo Tribunal), Yasemin and Nesrin Samdereli (Almanya: Welcome to Germany).

Birkenstock is a board member in the Deutsche Filmakademie. He is also a member of the European Film Academy, [2] and the German Documentary Association (AG DOK). [3] Birkenstock serves as a jury member for film funds in Germany and Switzerland.

The theatrical documentary Chandani – The daughter of the elephant whisperer was awarded with the German Film Award as best Children's Feature [16] and as Best Documentary at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival. [17]

The documentary "Beltracchi – The Art of Forgery" was awarded 2014 with the German Film Award "Lola" as "best documentary". [18]

The documentary "The Congo Tribunal" was awarded 2018 with the Zurich Film Award and nominated for the Swiss Film Award and for German Film Award "Lola" as "best documentary".

The documentary "The Night of All Nights" was awarded 2018 with the Bavarian Film Awards as "best Documentary".

<i>12 Tangos</i> 2005 film

12 Tangos: Adios Buenos Aires is a German documentary film from the director and producer Arne Birkenstock, filmed in 2004 in the Argentinean capital Buenos Aires. The film music was arranged and composed by the guitarist and composer Luis Borda who gathered the most important Argentinean Tango musicians for the produccion of this movie. The movie was produced by the Cologne production companies Fruitmarket Kultur und Medien and Tradewind Picturesin colobaration with ZDF and ARTE. The development of the script was aided by the European Media-Programm. The movie was released by the Kinostar GmbH and sold worldwide by Medialuna Entertainment. As co-producers Dr. Peter Bach und Hans Georg Haakshorst supported its production.

Wolfgang Beltracchi is a German art forger and visual artist who has admitted to forging hundreds of paintings in an international art scam netting millions of euros. Beltracchi, together with his wife Helene, sold forgeries of alleged works by famous artists, including Max Ernst, Heinrich Campendonk, Fernand Léger, and Kees van Dongen. Though he was found guilty for forging 14 works of art that sold for a combined $45m (£28.6m), he claims to have faked "about 50" artists. The total estimated profits Beltracchi made from his forgeries surpasses $100m.

She was blacklisted after the ouster of Juan Perón for having sung his anthem, Soy La Descamisada and did not work again until the 1970s. From her comeback in 1972, she remained an active performer until her death.

Contrakultura Films was an imprint of Iruña Films, SA a Buenos Aires film production effort dedicated to producing biographical documentaries on Latin American writers. Production offices were located in San Telmo. Soledad Liendo, Leonardo Hussen and Rodolfo Durán were among the producers. The initiative later expanded to include visual artists such as Andrés Waissman and Humberto Calzada, and [social scientists] such as León Rozitchner, Ismael Viñas, Juan Jose Sebreli and Jorge Lovisolo. Contrakultura existed as such between 2002 and 2006 producing approximately twenty-five documentaries with the support of INCAA, Fondo Nacional de las Artes, and the Ministerio de Cultura de la Nación. These films are presently owned by [Heritage Film Project], and currently being distributed by Alexander Street Press.
