Arnold Ekpe

Arnold Onyekwere Ekpe (born August 1953) is a Nigerian banker and businessman who was the group chief executive of Ecobank, the pan-African bank with operations from Togo to Nigeria to the DRC from 2005 to 2012. [1]

Early life

Ekpe was born in Nigeria, and also lived in Cameroon. [2]

He graduated from King's College, Lagos in 1972, [3] earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Manchester,and followed up with an MBA from the Manchester Business School. [1] [2]

Career

Ekpe served as the group CEO of Ecobank from 1996 to 2001, and 2005 to 2012. [4] Under his auspices, he oversaw the expansion of the bank across Africa and steered the company through the Great Recession.[ citation needed ]

Prior to joining Ecobank, he was the vice-president of the West/Southern African corporate finance desk at Citibank. [1] From 2002 to 2003 he was group CEO of United Bank for Africa (UBA), and from 2003 to 2005 he was a partner with African Capital Alliance, a private equity firm.[ citation needed ]

He was the honorary president of the Business Council for Africa, chairman of Safire Luxembourg, and chairman at Atlas Mara, the investment management firm founded by former Barclays CEO, Bob Diamond, between December 2013 and December 2016. [1]

He is now senior adviser to Dangote Group and Equator Capital Partners (US).[ citation needed ] He is chairman of Micro Cred France, non-executive director of Crown Agents Bank (UK), Crown Agents Investment Management Ltd (UK), AVMS India, and Dangote Flour Mills Ltd.[ citation needed ] He is a trustee of Vision for a Nation, a global charity, and supports research at University of Manchester, his alma mater.[ citation needed ]

Rory Tapner is a British businessman who, in September 2010 was appointed CEO of Coutts, the Wealth Management division of Royal Bank of Scotland Group. In February 2015 he stepped down as CEO; he was replaced in the role by Alison Rose, the then head of RBS Commercial and Private Banking. Prior to this, he was chairman and CEO Asia Pacific at UBS AG from May 2004 until June 2009 and a member of the UBS Group executive board from 2006 until June 2009 when he stepped down and returned to the UK. The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority is a Nigerian establishment which manages the Nigeria sovereign wealth fund, into which the surplus income produced from Nigeria's excess oil reserves is deposited. This sovereign wealth fund was founded for the purpose of managing and investing these funds on behalf of the government of Nigeria. The fund was established by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority Act 2011, signed in May 2011, and commenced operations in October 2012. It is intended to invest the savings gained on the difference between the budgeted and actual market prices for oil to earn returns that would benefit future generations of Nigerians. The fund was allocated an initial US$1 billion in seed capital, and, an additional $0.60billion has been contributed to date by the current administration. In October 2023, the fund has US$2.3 billion in assets under management.

The National Competitiveness Council of Nigeria (NCCN) is a private-public non-profit organisation in Nigeria. The council's mandate is to improve the attractiveness of Nigeria’s economy as a place to do business in the global marketplace. The Council's operations are largely driven by the private sector, with government playing a supportive and enabling role. The Council serves as a nexus for the dialogue between business, trade unions, regulatory organisations, academia, international development organisations, think tanks, media and the Nigerian Government. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Coalition Against COVID-19</span>

The Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) is a private sector-led organization in Nigeria established to assist the government in combating the Coronavirus disease in the country. It was launched on March 26, 2020, following an announcement made by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele. The purpose of the relief fund is to "support the Federal government of Nigeria in containing the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria; to ensure patients get the care they need and frontline workers get essential supplies and equipments; and to accelerate efforts to provide tests and treatments. Major companies, including Dangote Group, Access Bank and MTN have donated to the CACOVID Relief Fund, in addition to several private organizations and individuals.

Jeremy Awori, is the Group CEO of Ecobank Transnational, effective 1 March 2023. He replaced Ade Ayeyemi, from Nigeria, who retired, having attained the retirement of age of 60. Awori is based in Lomé, Togo.
