Art Fight is a website and art game hosted annually in July. In it, users are part of one of two teams, and earn points for their team by 'attacking' other users, which involves making art of their characters. [1] Over the years, the event has steadily grown in popularity, with over 400,000 people participating in 2024. [2]
At the start of the event, participants are randomly sorted into one of two teams, and given a small amount of chances to switch teams. Since 2024, it's also possible to select a team prior to the start of the event. [3]
To earn points for their team, a participant has to 'attack' other users by making art of other user's original characters. Participants can attack members of either team, but attacking members of their own team (called 'friendly fire') will result in the attack earning significantly less points. The amount of points earned also depends on the general complexity of the artwork, with the type of art, the level of finish, whether or not it's colored or shaded, and what sort of background it has all being taken into account. While most attacks take the form of digital paintings, other forms such as crafts or 3D models are also allowed.
Art Fight was started in 2007 on a small internet forum, and had a small number of participants. Since 2016, the competition has taken place on artfight.net, and has grown in participants each year. [4]
