The Duet free routine competition of the 2023 European Games was held on 21 and 24 June 2023 in Oswiecim, Poland. [1] Together with the Duet Technical event, it formed part of a direct qualification competition for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
In the preliminary rounds all eighteen pairs of entrants competed, with the top twelve pairs progressing to the final. [2] [3]

Synchronized swimming or artistic swimming is a sport where swimmers perform a synchronized choreographed routine, accompanied by music. The sport is governed internationally by World Aquatics. It has traditionally been a women's sport, although FINA introduced a new mixed gender duet competition that included one male swimmer in each duet at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships and LEN introduced men's individual events at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships. From 2024, men will be able to compete in the team event at the Olympics.
Finland participated at the 2015 European Games, in Baku, Azerbaijan from 12 to 28 June 2015.
Synchronised swimming at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games was held in the OCBC Aquatic Centre, in Kallang, Singapore from 2 to 4 June 2015.
The Women's duet event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, took place at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Center from 14 to 16 August.
Anita Alvarez is an American artistic and synchronized swimmer. Originally from Buffalo, New York, she attended Kenmore West Senior High School, from which she graduated in 2014. She began her professional synchronized swimming career after she graduated.

Kate Elizabeth Shortman is a British synchronised swimmer. She competed in the women's duet event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. She also represented Great Britain at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary and at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. She also competed at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. She trains at the City of Bristol Swimming Club.

She also represented Great Britain at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary and at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. She also competed at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. She trains at the City of Bristol Swimming Club.
